The headphone jack on the Mac Pro 2019 is actually a combo jack. This adapter lets you connect both a microphone and headphones into that one jack. Works great.

As others have mentioned, this does not work with Apple products. I’ve tried it on iPhone 6s and higher, as well as the most recent iPad and iPad mini tablets. Apple uses a different protocol and they don’t mention that on here or even on their tech support when you talk with them. They say Apple devices should work “under normal circumstances”. They do not. Save yourself the time.

Excellent use: Recording or live-streaming from your phone. Improve the recorded/streamed audio sent from your phone, with an external mic that you can place closer to the person speaking. This adapter converts a standard mono mic mini-plug, like from a blue-tooth or wired clip-on, to work with the mic-earbud connection on the phone. Converts to dual-mono in the process. Good audio is the key to good video!

I have a macbook pro and bought this adapter as a just in case for plugging in an external mic into my laptop. I tested it and it worked great. It was a tight fit to get the 1/8 in to the mic/headphone inputs, but works just fine.
