The black SATA to 2.5″ or 3.5″ IDE Hard Drive Adapter for HDD Docks from StarTech allows you to use your 2.5″/3.5″ IDE-based (PATA) hard drives in SATA-based HDD docking stations and drive duplicators. The SATA-IDE adapter features all-metal construction that ensures maximum durability, and is fully compatible with IDE hard drives up to ATA-133 (133 MB/s).
The unique design of the SATA/IDE adapter enables it to be easily mounted to an IDE/ATA hard drive and inserted into a SATA hard drive dock bay for quick and easy retrieval of data from older HDDs. The adapter can also be used to install IDE hard drives into SATA desktop computers, or any other scenario that requires an IDE hard drive to be connected through serial ATA.

This product requires some assembly Everytime you want to swap the adapter onto another drive. After that it’s as simple as plug and play! Its nostalgic going through my old files again!

It works great however I thought it would provide a plug-in adapter but it is made so that you physically (with screws) attach the IDE drive to the adapter and then plug this adapter in the StarTech SATA dock. I am using it without attaching the IDE to the adapter (plugged in the cables only) and it is fine.

Ok… so had this free standing hard drive that would not show up on my mac anymore… removed the hard drive itself from the case… installed into the StarTech Adapter in about 90 seconds… plugged into my SATA doc… and BOOM… my info was back! Not more trying to replace an external power supply or other drive resurrection voodoo …
