Perfectly and quickly strip insulation from electrical wires every time with the Steelman 41866 Self-Adjusting Wire and Cable Stripper. The tool’s hardened steel jaws will automatically adjust to all but the smallest gauges of insulated wires and with a quick turn of the micro adjustment knob, even the smallest of wires are perfectly stripped without cutting or damaging the wires. The easy, 1-handed operation takes only a single squeeze regardless of wire gauge from delicate 30 AWG to heavy-duty 8AWG wires and the ergonomic PP/TPR handle provides maximum comfort and less strain on your hand. The adjustable wire stop lets you set exactly how much insulation you need removed without having to measure or mark each individual wire. The built-in wire cutter near the pivot point of the tool can cut through 24 AWG to 10 AWG solid or stranded wire. Just below the cutter is a series of terminal crimpers that can accommodate insulated and non-insulated terminals ranging in size from 22 AWG to 10 AWG, and even 7 mm – 8 mm ignition terminals. These near automatic 8 in. strippers are ideal for anyone looking to do wiring work – from a journeyman linesman or professional electrician on the job to a Dyer or regular homeowner looking to do some minor home repairs.

STEELMAN 8-Inch Self-Adjusting Wire and Cable Stripper is a multi-tool for electricians and others doing this work around the house. It handles a wide range of wire sizes for insulation stripping from 8 AWG to thin 30 AWG in thicknesses. Will cut wires and cable from 10 AWG to 24 AWG. I’m now seeing this style of wire stripper more around lately with different brands and all similar. The tool is an improvement from older style wire strippers that you’ve been using. The risk of nicking the wire is eliminated especially with smaller threaded wire, this is more a problem. The business end of the stripper are two clamps on top that hold both sides of the wire as you squeeze the handle to pull off the insulation. It has a red plastic stop feature to adjust the stripper that sets the length to remove insulation back from the wire end. It automatically adjusts for wire thickness and with the smallest wire gauges has a micro adjustment knob, if needed. What surprised me is I was even able to strip a wire pair of speaker wires at the same time. The advantage of this tool is once its setup it can be repeated again and again on more wires. I did notice in using it on all wire thicknesses you have to check that any of the wire insulation bits are removed from the jaws as it will interfere with the next cut. Its a small matter. As you are not usually cutting only one wire at a time, the tool is a time saver, doing more precise stripping and less frustration. The tool in addition has a wire cutter and several crimpers for different size terminals. It also has soft rubbery like material covering the handle for comfort. I’ve done this type of work on the job and its really a handy one tool. It will easily handle wires sizes found in homes and the work place. Its a good addition to your toolbox.

Doing electrical work now for over 52 years I have used many styles and brands of wire strippers. When doing electrical work every day ( before retirement) especially when I was using the same guage wire with the same insulation I preferred to use a very small simple wire stripper that depended on feel to just take the insulation off without damaging the wire. However I must admit that now when I go long periods of time without stripping a wire, especially when using my strippers that depend on “feel” I sometimes damage the conductor. I obtained these dummy proof strippers because of that because you do not want to nick the conductors when doing electrical work. I really like this Steelman wire cuttter, stripper, crimper tool because it auto adjusts for the size wire you are stripping and you know that if you strip a hundred wires, they will all be perfectly done. As stated earlier, it’s as close to dummy proof as you are going to get.

Works great for 10AWG and smaller. Doesn’t work at all for the 8 and 6 I have been using but maybe it’s because of the oil and gas resistant insulation? It just peels back the outer layer which makes it hard to get a clean fit in the breaker or terminal. Even if I try cutting through a bit first by spinning a knife or other strippers around, still won’t strip but maybe 1 out of 10 times for 8AWG and larger

i want to start with, this is a hi volume wire stripper, a professional tool made to strip wire daily. As a DYIer i feel like i do not use it enough. that said, I stripped every piece of wire I could find. WOW it did a great job. the self adjusting work perfectly, the cutter worked on all gauges of wire and the crimper is a nice feature. there are a few features i did not know about when i got it. there is a fine adjustment knob, and when set correctly, you can strip you outer insulator and go right to the wire insulator with no adjustments i striped a 12/2 wire with three squeezes, very cool also two conductor lamp cord can be stripped with one squeeze. this wire stripper is great, i love it.

This is a review for the STEELMAN Automatic Self-Adjusting Wire and Cable Stripping tool,Model # 41866. This hand tool measures 8 inches long by 3 3 /4 inches wide at the base of the handle. It is a wellmade tool of quality steel parts and should provide years of service. The handles are made ofa thick plastic and rubber material giving good grip. It is also adjustable from 30 to 8 AWG though itwill do this automatically. Besides the self stripper function, it has has a wire cutter and a terminal crimper on the handle for insulated, non-insulated and ignition terminal crimping. For those of you who have used the old standard strippers where you have to cut the plasticinsulation then spin the stripper around the wire and pull hard to remove the insulation, this tooldoes it on one step and is a far superior design, making stripping, cutting and crimping wire work a simplicity. Great design. A great tool for any toolbox. Recommended.

Great tool. You can adjust the length of insulation to remove via a screw-adjustable stop. No adjusting for wire gauge and maybe cutting copper, it automatically adjusts for wire gauge. My new favorite tool.
