These wire strippers are economical and work great. I tested stripping different types and sizes of wires with great success. The clear markings on the wire strippers show which slot to use based upon the gauge of the wire. The tip of the wire strippers can be used as pliers and have serrations on them for better hold. The tool also has a set of cutting edges about .75″ for cutting wires. This cutting edge is wide enough to cut a romex wire with a single squeeze. There is also a hole through the tool that allows you to quickly cut a single wire to length after it is stripped. I recommend this product for most all wire stripping needs.

The Steelman Universal Wire strippers and cutter are for 10 to 20 AWG gauge wires. At six and a half inches long, they are small enough to carry in tool bags but not too small to use. The handles are insulated and slightly padded. Comfortable to use and have sharp cutting edges to get a clean clear removal of the insulation. I liked the small flip up lock to keep the spring-loaded jaws closed. This is a plus for tools kept in tool bags with large pockets or undesignated sections. The strippers clearly have the gauge wire noted on the jaws but wished is was a little large in print, or better contrast so it would be easier to read. However is should be noted they are marked on BOTH sides of the jaws which is a rarity.

The very best in wire stripping has come back!Back in the 1980’s I had wire strippers exactly like this Steelman brandonly mine were another brand which could not find after time. (30 years)Now, this stripper is the one for feel, stripping abilities, and a lock closeof stripping edges. Strippers that don’t lock shut are dangerous and annoying!Quality craftsmanship with easy read strip gauges from 10 to 20 AWG.Great for electrical make up work for repetition comfort use of tool. You have a “happy camper” here and this tool is a very welcomeditem in my tool arsenal. Going to pick up a back-up pair…

I used the wire stripper on 14 gauge 3 wire cable and it easily cut thought the outer sheath. It cleaned and stripped the sheathing off each of the internal wires. The gauge was very accurate. My only criticism is that the handles are too short to comfortable hold and store in my tool belt. I own another brand and the handles are slightly curved with one side slightly longer than the other, this was much easier to handle .

I’ve been delighted with these stripper/cutters since I picked them up. They fit well in my hand, have the size ranges of the wire sizes printed clearly on both sides, are lightly spring loaded and have a locking nut that keeps them closed while stored. The locking nut is easy to reach and activate with a finger or thumb so using them with a single hand is a cinch. They were well lubricated when I first used them, and have worked well since. They seem made of good quality materials and feel like they’ll last for years of service if I take good care of them.
