This is a review of the Swanson Speed Square and Gripline 25 ft. Tape Measure Bundle. This is a pretty sharp bundle of something that everybody needs. The tape measure has large easy to read numbers. I like how it has the fractional measurements on one side. I hate trying to figure those out in my head. The tape has a swivel tip that allows you to hook it over a pipe. The tip has magnets to hold the tape to metal. It says it will hold out to eight feet. I was able to achieve that distance but kept a finger on the tape in case the magnet let go. Eight feet of tape snapping back is not fun. The speed square is really nice aluminum construction and made in the US! It should last a really long time, and the markings on it are nice and deep which makes them easy to read.

After viewing this product online, I decided to purchase it. The Gripline tape measure is awesome! I also like that the Swanson speed square came with a handy book regarding the rafter pitches! I built a 10×12 shed with these tools and they worked great! I definitely recommend purchasing this product!

This is a great bundle. I will start with the tape Measure The first thing you will notice is the Large numbers on the tape. Then when you look at the underside of the tape you will see the the numbers and its also marked with fractions 1/8 up to 7/8 on the underside only. I have found this to be a big help when you hook the tape on something high and try to read it you don’t have to get above it to read it you can read it from the bottom side. I have been able to reach over 8′ with this tape as long as I don’t turn it sideways. The magnetic end plate is great I have found it will stick to the metal strip under the paint on drywall around window seals and corners. I was even able to find screws/nails in the walls. When working in my shop I have used it on my table saw as I always double check my fance to the blade before I cut. I like the belt clip the way it fuctions with a push tab to help hock your belt. The tape lock really locks with a snap not just slide pressure. I have found the magnetic rotating hook end to be a big plus when you are working alone its so easy to turn it so you can hook something and pull to get a good measurement it don’t matter if its on the grond or in the air you can hook it and go its that easy. Well now for the Speed square. I have 2 already a 6″ and a 12″ that was My dads that he had for years. He passed 10 years ago and I got the squares. I did not realize till the other day they are the same brand Swanson. Any way I use the 6″ speed square almost daily when I am working in my shop. I have found it so much easyer to use than a combination squre or a framing square. Its just the right size to do a quick check on my table saw to make sure my blade is at 90deg or the cut I just made is square. Its easy to mark a work piece with the 1/4″ notch marks. I have not done roofing in about 15 years thats when I used one last for the rafters to cut them to fit. I used it again today making a home address plaque for a friend. It came in handy checking for square and marking the grid lines for the numbers. There is also the Swanson Speed square book in the Bundle that gives you the Information on using the Square when doing roofing a big plus it you are in construction work. This tool will last you a lifetime. Its well made I will post both My dads 6″ and My New 6″ so you can see what it would look like after more than 25 years of use.

A really nice bundle; if you do not have a speed square yet, I would recommend this just for that alone (if you don’t know what you can do with a speed square, do a quick search; one of the most valuable tools you can own). I have two other speed squares: one light aluminum and one polypropylene but wanted a beefier one and this Swanson speed square is the ticket and it has quickly become my favorite and go-to. It has notches for scribing parallel lines, a notch that allows (with a string and a weight) to make a protractor out of it, and is sturdy enough to easily be used as an edge guide for a circular saw. Add in all the other features found on a speed square, this is a must have in my workshop. Its construction is well thought out and it will last a long time. And it the speed square is made in the USA.The 25 foot Gripline tape measure was a bonus; I can never have enough of these, as I am always misplacing them, so it is nice to have one in every general location I can. My original thought was that a magnet on the end, while a nice idea, would be of little use and be more of a pain because of having to pick off nails, metal shards, etc and since I work with wood and other non-metals it was a ‘meh’ feature. However, what I did not expect was that the tape measure can be read on either side, with the markings on the bottom having the fractional marks imprinted, AND it has this ingenious sliding disk on the end that allows it to grip the edge of a workpiece nicer than any other I have seen or used This is definitely a great addition to this bundle. Finally, just for good measure, they have included the Swanson “Blue Book” which explains rafter and roof construction measurements, as well as tips for using the speed square. I recommend this bundle; this is a great value.

Wow! Swanson calls it’s Speed Square an “ESSENTIAL” tool. And, it is a unique tool. It is actually five tools in a small triangle. It is a try square, a miter square, a protractor, a line scriber and a saw guide. [photos A&B ] But, it has when used along with Swanson’s “Little Blue Book” [photo C] more Features, Advantageous and Benefits [F.A.B.s] than just being an essential tool. This Swanson bundle offers you a special value project. and it includes their limited lifetime guarantee. You can select it with confidence and use on your every job or project. Swanson’s tape also is “Essential” and has many F.A.B.s as well. Just the tape part alone it’s nylon coated for extra durability and displays large numbers for easy reading along with the 16″ and black diamond markings on the bottom as well. [photos D] Wow! That is a lot.
