With 17 taps and 17 dies in a full range of coarse and fine sizes from 3 to 12 mm, the TEKTON Tap and Die Set (39-Piece) is the ideal all-purpose set for your garage or shop. These tapered plug taps and dies are the most commonly used style and are perfect for most hand threading applications. They are known for their ability to start easily, either cutting new material or chasing lightly damaged threads. With proper technique and the right lubricant, these taps and dies will cut mild carbon and alloy steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass and bronze.

We have been using these to chase the threads on nuts and bolts for a 1968 bug. These work fantastic to remove the 52 years of dirt and rust. The handles for the holders don’t stay tight while using them.

My husband asked for this for Christmas. He was really pleased with it. It arrived with all of the parts all over the place and they had to all be put back in their slots, so maybe it just needs to have an extra thick layer of foam inside to cushion the pieces in place. Otherwise, quality was good.

Tekton makes some very good tools and this tap and die set is a prime example of their quality products. While this is not a professional set – professional sets cost well over $200 – this is a good set for the DIYer. I also own the SAE set which has worked very well. For the price you simply can’t go wrong. I recommend the metric and SAE sets to everyone. (Getting free shipping to your home is a big plus too!)

I bought the set as I need to install a hitch receiver to my 8 year old Honda. Threads on the pre-drilled holes are all dis-functional. I used this set to tap the holes to the factory spec. Once the holes were re-tapped, the installation was a breeze. The set worked beautifully.

Bought as a gift but waited an inordinate amount of time to receive. Case is a piece of junk. Will never order on-line from HD again.

Obviously have not used it much since receiving it at Christmas, but it appears to be a quality product. Biggest draw-back is that all the pieces did not stay in their place with lid closed – had to install a piece of foam on inside of cover to keep things where they belong.
