The black Tether Tools TetherPro USB 2.0 Type-A to 5-Pin Mini-USB Cable is 3′ long and has gold-plated connectors to provide consistent and reliable conductivity as well as corrosion resistance. The ends of this cable feature a standard USB Type-A male connector and the other side is outfitted with a 5-pin mini-B male plug, which is compatible with most digital cameras.
To deliver data at speeds up to 480 Mb/s, Tether Tools has equipped this cable with USB 2.0 technology. It sports a reinforced Ferrite core that filters out signal noise and reduces transmission errors. In addition, the full-lined shielding feature protects the signal against external interference.

The product works fine for tethering the camera to laptop or when downloading the photographs from the camera. The orange color makes it easy to spot in a busy shoot, however I would recommend using a black wire when shooting a reflective subject.

The orange color led me to this one over the Canon version, but unfortunately, the cable did not fit snugly into the camera. Everytime I flipped the camera vertically, it would come loose and lose connection. This may have been a one off issue, but I returned this one and got the Canon version instead.

I use this cord as a Tether between my MacBook Pro and my Nikon D5200. The bright color helps keep me from tripping over it all the time. It is also long enough to not have to have a stand close to the camera – which is more expensive than I can justify at the current time.

How I use this product: – I use this cable to connect my Canon EOS 5D Mark III to shoot tethered with Capture One Pro. I heard that some people have had problems with a frequently appearing error message. Be sure to go to Edit Preferences Capture Enable Tethered Support and only check the brands you actually use. This will allow the program to instantly narrow down to identifying what you’re shooting with for a better connection. I just tested this out on my most recent catalog shoot and it eliminated the hiccups! 😀 What’s great about it: – The cable is lengthy and transmission of images to the computer seems very fast even though it’s USB 2.0. What’s not so great about it: – They haven’t made a USB 3.0 version of this specific thread (5-pin male), but this one works well for me already. Overall: – It’s pretty straight to the point. If you have multiple ports and some are USB 2.0/3.0, use the 2.0 ones. Don’t forget about the Enabled Tethered Support that I mentioned. I hope that helps! =

I used to work in musical instrument & pro audio retail and I hate to pay retail for cables, but I also realize the value of having good cables where data and audio transfer are critical. I bought these cables for all of my camera tethering and for data communication with one of my synthesizers to communicate with my computers.
