The JerkStopper Tethering Kit (RJ45 Network Jack), exclusively from Tether Tools, is the complete tethered setup that secures the cables of both your camera and computer. This kit will remove all the stress and strain placed on the cable or cord to ensure that it stays plugged in and prevents cable or equipment damage. The Camera Support connects to the holder on the camera where the wrist strap would be to provide slack to cables. The patented JerkStopper cable retention device for this particular computer support model uses a RJ45 Ethernet jack as an anchor point by allowing slack in the cord in order to prevent damage or dislodging. This kit can be used with any standard A/C power adapter cord, flash sync cord, HDMI, USB or FireWire cable. It supports cable diameters from 3.5mm to 8.5mm.

If your going to be tethering to a computer this is a must to have. It protects your connections on your camera as well as you laptop. A helpful hint is while using the jerkstopper make sure your tripod that is supporting your laptop is on wheeels, in case someone bumps into your tethering cable it will roll instead of tip over. I opted for the RJ45 option since I never use it on my laptop.

I’ve been using hair bands (Scuncies) and twist ties to secure my cables to my camera and computer while shooting tethered photos at events for several years. They were OK, but sometimes awkward as I wrapper the scuncies arouond the lenses. I bought this tosimplify my setup. Also the RJ45 Network jack setup will secure the cable to my computer and quickly release, when I am done. My old method for securing the cable to the laptop was less neat, usually just looping some cable under the laptop, hoping the laptop won’t slip when tugged. I haven’t had a chance to actually use these yet, But I’m glad I have them.
