What I was hoping for and maybe a little more. Easy to start but battery only lasts about 40 minutes but that was expected. Perfect Replacement for gas if your lawn is under a third of an acre.

Bottom line – I’d recommend the mower to a friend and buy another based on 4 weeks of use. It has plenty of power, quiet, very easy to use and I think will be a good mower – more below.Details – Ive had 2 Honda HRX mowers and consider their “dealer level” – $800 mower to be the best on the market. I have a Toro snowblower and am very happy after 19 years of occasional but demanding use. I finally gave up on Honda as the 8 yr old mower kept costing $100 / yr in parts and had lots of things going wrong.Highs – Plenty of power and a great cut in thick fescue grass. Mowing into the empty lot with 10 in grass – there is a whole second speed for the motor and it performed well! It feels lighter than it is and the Personal Pace is pretty good. I feel that it is a good value and I hope that it is very maintenance free. Love the plastic bumpers on the edges to stop rust. The handle and height adjusters are great, the bag door and access are very easy and logical. Charge the battery, start the motor, cut the grass – done…Concerns – My lot is 1/3 acre and I was able to finish on 1 charge once out of 4 times… I could not find the high output mower anywhere (unsure if COVID issue or poor supply chain) and am now debating buying a second battery…. Consider allowing that dealers have the base mower and then your choice of batteries at the same price as the whole unit! I would have paid $100 more at the time. While it feels very light compared to the Honda, it does not feel as rugged and I am hopeful it holds up. Personal Pace is a good idea, but doesn’t really work well if your yard is not glass smooth – small bumps make it go fast/slow/fast.. A 5 speed with clutch is much easier folks. Rethink the controls! The bag is good, but cant fill more than about half as it leans forward – weird. While the blade cuts well, buying a new blade each year seems odd – Ill bet it needs sharpening soon and you need to engineer for that.

Pros:Light, easy to maneuver, minor assembly, battery lasts more than one hour, comes with charger, quiet operation.Cons:Box had been opened prior to shipping, battery and starter button were just thrown into the box, limited to mowing about 1/3 acre on a single charge, starter button can be mislaid. This 22″ inch mulching lawn mower is a useful substitute for gas powered mowers for lawns that require about 70 minutes or less to cut. I was able to mow 3500 sq. ft. of lawn in 18 minutes and the battery charge indicator showed 75% of charge still left. My estimate is, therefore, that the battery will last about 70 minutes and mow about 14,000 sq. ft. of lawn. The manufacturer claims that one charge will last for mowing 1/3 of an acre, or about 14,000+ sq. ft. Seems about right. This is a walk behind mower, not self-propelled; so the rate of cutting depends somewhat on the walking speed. The fact that this is not a self-powered unit means that the battery will last longer–a definite plus. The unit comes with a battery charger. Note that, when charging, a fan comes on making a soft whirring sound. If the charger is placed in a garage, the noise is of no consequence. Indicator lights show the charging level. The indicators are also on the battery itself so that the charge can be tested even when the battery is installed in the mower.Starting the unit requires two hands. One hand is used to keep the “starter” button depressed, while the other hand squeezes the safety handle. Once started, the starter button can be released but the safety handle must remain squeezed. Releasing the safety handle stops the motor. To restart the motor, the starting sequence must be repeated. The user manual directs the user to remove the starter button when storing the unit. This is obviously a safety feature but with no place to store the button in the unit, the button can be easily mislaid and lost. I just keep the button in place all the time. One thoughtful design item is the addition of a water hose connection to wash the underside of the mower without turning it over. The mower comes assembled except for the safety lever which is easily mounted in the holes of the mower handle. On the negative side, the unit came in a box that had clearly been opened. The battery box was empty and a the battery had just been thrown into the box along with the starter button. I almost did not find starter button because it had rolled under the mower. the instruction manual did not come in a protective plastic envelope.Overall, I am happy to replace my gasoline powered mower with this Toro electric unit. Recommended!

The mower is fine, but it came not fully assembled: I had to take it to a service center to have the blade activation bar put in the correct spot and the blade activation cable attached. The box had been opened. The battery box had just been shoved in and the battery had fallen out. The mower works fine and runs longer on a full charge than I usually feel like pushing it. The height adjustment levers are so stiff that even the large man at the service center could not reset one of them. It matters because, among other reasons, the mower needs to be adjusted to the lowest setting when doing the washout cleaning, and you are supposed to do that after each use. Lowering and raising the mower after cleaning is a long, tough wrestling match, especially since I’m a 70-year-old arthritic wimp.

I really wanted to give this 5 stars because I love the simplicity of the battery powered mower. However, there are some issues that impact my overall rating that can’t be ignored. First, the deck is metal but the rest of it is plastic and doesn’t feel like it will hold up…especially the wheels (which are very cheap). For the price, this machine should have been a better quality product…like ‘real’ wheels instead of flimsy plastic ‘toy like’ wheels. Second, the item description clearly said it was ‘self propelled’…those exact words. However, it’s NOT self propelled. I wanted a self propelled mower, it said it WAS self propelled in the bullet points, and that’s not what I got. Third, the handle is too low, even on the highest setting, to push without causing back pain. I’m only 5’6″, so a taller person would have a real hard time with it. There should be more settings to adjust the handle up farther. Poor design. Fourth, and finally, the battery for this is outrageously expensive. If it only lasts the 3 years that the warranty covers, that means I have to basically spend the amount of money that a new mower would cost (a good mower) every 3 years to keep it powered. I wish the cost of the batteries was more reasonable.I can’t deny that I love not having to pull a cord or worry about gas and oil. Overall, it’s a great concept but lacks quality for the price and is inaccurately described on the Home Depot website.

I’ve mowed my lawn 3 times so far. Excellent mower. It mulches my thick damp lawn. It is properly self propelled. It truly feels just like a gas mower without the gas.HOWEVER, my lot (including my home) is 1/3 acre. I can only mow 50% to 75% my yard before the battery dies. Unless you have a small lawn, include the price of an additional 6 ah battery when considering this mower. For me, even when adding the price of another EXPENSIVE battery – this mower is still at 4/5 stars for me. Otherwise, it would be 5/5.

Toro did a great job with this mower.Cuts right through thick 8 – 10” tall grass that used to stall my gas powered mower and it beats the EGO that I bought last year. Granted, it did leave a small trail of grass blades that weren’t fully cut, but the grass was 10” tall and super thick.I couldn’t believe that it didn’t bog down or stall. The Toro 60V Mower cut the grass into much smaller pieces than I was expecting. This is the same blade used on Toro gas mowers.I really like that the blade has some mass to it unlike most cordless mowers that use cheap, light and thin blades. Only time will tell, but so far so good

Very happy with my decision to buy this mower. I was really debating electric vs gas and glad I went this route. Set up was simple – pull it out of the box, flip the handle up, clip the three sides of the bag to the frame, charge battery, insert key and off you go. On how it performed – I think what makes the difference here is you can buy this exact mower in either electric or gas — so given the strong 60v motor it performs just like the gas model does. I was frankly surprised how well it did – I was willing to give up a little on the cut quality to get the benefits of electric but from what I saw last night cutting through some really thick, wet grass – no compromise at all! If you’re on the fence about this one – just go for it. It’s so nice not to have to smell like gas when you’re done with mowing the lawn – and not having to wear ear protection is a welcome treat.

What a great mower, I charged the battery and mowed the front and back yards and still had 3/4th of a charge left. It cut the grass and left a nice flat surface. It seemed lighter than my last electric mower that died and was easy to push with the large wheels. I like the way you can fold up the handle and stand the mower on end and it takes up a very small space in the garage, The clipping bag was easy to put together and install, it also came with a side shoot in case you had tall grass to shoot it out the side.

Love it. I have been using an electric, corded, lawnmower for the past ten years. Just got tired of dragging a cord all over the yard. This gives me new found freedom. This battery operated mower gives me as much power as any gasoline lawn mower I have owned. And, compared to my old electric lawnmower, again… NO CORD!

Bought this mower (60V Toro SmartStow 22″ push) to replace a 56V mower of another brand that I purchased from Home Depot five years ago. I’m including some comparisons in this review to help people who might be trying to decide which battery mower to buy from many choices now available. The old mower slowed down when it was three years old and died completely after the warranty expired. Based on frustrating service experiences with that one I looked for a different, established brand that had local service available; we have an excellent implement company in town that is an authorized Toro service center. After the first mowing, I am happy I bought this Toro. Most importantly, it mows better. Mulching is excellent. This Toro really does feel like it has the power of a gas mower–even when mulching, powered through thick grass that overloaded the old mower, and left my lawn looking better because this one cut all the grass and didn’t leave some behind like the old one did. Steel deck is a mixed blessing–heavier, but sturdy and easy to clean. The deck and blade are the same ones used in their gas model, and of a superior design to more effectively lift, cut, and mulch grass. Grass did not stick and build up under the deck. I definitely worked harder pushing and pulling this one, but it’s still easier than the gas mower I had borrowed to get me through, and I would not want self-propelled. The 6AH battery got me nearly all the way through my 1/3 acre lot; if I had set the cut a little higher and not mulched, or if the grass had been dryer I expect it would have got all the way through. The older mower would not have gone nearly as far on a full charge of its 5AH battery. Some aspects are not as good but I’ll live with them, they aren’t deal-breakers: –wheels need height adjusted individually;–handle is not padded and straight across not angled–gave me a blister (next time, will wear gloves);–fewer strategically-placed handles;–battery takes several hours to charge, the old one took less than one hour;On the other hand,–the Toro can be hosed off, and includes a hose cleanout port;–the 22″ cut width is best-in-class;–it can be serviced without being sent halfway across the country, and parts are available;–build quality is excellent–simple and rugged;–okay this is frivolous, but the Toro looks like a real lawn mower, not a transformers toy.The warranty on the Toro mower is two years compared to five years of the other model (three year battery warranty for either), but at least if this mower does need service I know it can actually get fixed. A long warranty with poor service to back it up isn’t worth much. Also, many of the battery mowers on the market are built to be disposable–they are cheaper to replace than fix, they are built to wear out, and end up in landfills, negating the environmental benefit of electric compared to gas.I shopped around, and as of today I believe this Toro is the best choice out there for a lawn at the larger end of the size recommended for battery mowers (1/3 acre or larger).
