Last night, I installed TP-Link AV-2000 Gigaport Powerline Adapter in my house. I put second unit upstairs and connected it to this swith. I then connected switch to PS/4, Apple TV and XBox. Everything worked great. Today, everything stopped working. After spending 30 minutes with TP-Link Tech Support, we got the AV-2000 working direct to PS/4 and AppleTV. TP-Link said the switch was dead.

The switch has one port for connecting up a level to a server, a router, a modem to the internet, or even another switch. Then it has 4 more ports for adding a subset of devices to your home ethernet that will communicate with each other at 1Gb. For instance, I connected my computer, a NAS storage device, and an Epson printer to the switch in my office. I then connected this switch’s uplink port to a second switch in my wife’s office. In that room, the second switch’s uplink port is connected to our AT&T modem/router, and to my wife’s computer on the same subnet as the switch in my office. All connections, except the one to our slow AT&T moden/router, were made with Cat 6 ethernet cable. With this configuration, my home network works at 1Gbit between devices, which is nice for using the NAS storage for backing up either computer, sending large photographs to the printer, and for playing the iTunes music stored on the NAS. No re-configuring of the network was required. I simply plugged the switches in as described, replaced the Cat 5 cables, and it just works!

I needed extra ports beyond my 5 port modem and purchased this switch. It does exactly what I needed it for; to access the internet on another computer and a smart TV. I plugged in an Ethernet cable from the modem to the switch, plugged in Ethernet cables from the switch to the computer and smart TV, plugged in the power cord from the switch to an electrical outlet, turned them all on and voila! Plug and Play internet access. No configuration needed, just plug in and go! I highly recommend this product!!!
