Even though ‘recommended’ for the laptop my husband purchased, was not compatible. Had to either purchase additional software or download questionable freeware. Most of the features were unavailable, thus the instruction manual was just as useless as the CD/DVD writer. Expected more- my purchase should have included everything needed for the writer to work properly.

I already had the VLC media player ap installed on my windows 10 laptop, so when I plugged this into my USB port straight from the box, it was recognized and functioned immediately. If your computer doesn’t have a driver, Transcend provides one free, but you must download one in order to use external drives–perhaps that’s why some users claim their player wouldn’t work?

Easy to use and light very similar to other models by other manufacturers. However and very importantly, from visual inspection the disc carriage latch pin seems to be metal vs the cheap plastic found in the LG models. I am hopeful this product will function mechanically as long as the electronics should last.
