The TEG-S16Dg 16-Port GREENnet Gigabit Ethernet Switch from TRENDnet is an easy-to-use, high-speed, power-efficient solution for connecting different Ethernet-enabled devices on your network. This switch utilizes sixteen Gigabit Ethernet ports that are also Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX. With Auto-Negotiation, the switch will figure out the appropriate speed to transfer data and the appropriate mode (full or half duplex) depending on what is supported by the device connected to your switch. With Auto-MDIX, you can connect either a regular or crossover cable to a port and the switch will adjust no matter the cable type. You can also use standard Ethernet cables as crossover cables when connecting devices. Since this switch is plug-and-play, you can start using it as soon as you connect Ethernet-enabled network devices. No need to configure it.
Because this switch is designed with GREENnet technology, it can reduce its power consumption by 70% in comparison to standard Trendnet switches. It reduces its power consumption when an Ethernet port is not in use, when an Ethernet cable is a shorter length, when a connected device is in power saving mode, and when a connected device is turned off. Housed in a sturdy metal enclosure, this switch is an easy, energy-efficient, high-speed way to connect up to sixteen devices on your network.

I have 7 computers and need at least 12 ports so this was ideal. I may connect an over-the-air tv antenna and some camers so I thought 16 ports should be enough. I plan on doing lots of video streaming and don’t whant to use wireless. The TEG-S16 has nice strong connections (RJ45 feel very secure). I like having a plug for power and not one of those power adapter bricks. I haven’t had a chance to do straming yet so I can’t check how fast it realy is. All my computers do active the gigbit speeds leds on the TEG-S16 switch. The speed of transfer is almost entirely dictated by the hard drive. I have a old compute that uses the old ata interface and takes a long time to transfer 4.35 GB dvd’s however the new hdd speeds are 3 times faster. I like this switch. There is one think I don’t like about the TEG-16 even though I gave it 5 stars. It dosn’t come whith the capability of mounting on a ply-wood board vertically and has to be kept on a flat serface. I will have to rig something up to fasten it to the ply-wood.

After a recent renovation, I ran cat-5e to every room in the house, in hope of having less traffic through the wireless and a more secure environment. It just made sense at that point to upgrade to GigE, and this product was perfect for the project, given the extra number of connections.

I have been happy with these switches. I had two five ports of this brand and I needed more room in one so I got this 16 port. I have never had any problems with them and would buy again. The only problem I had after buying this one was my own fault. This unit has the power supply built into the case instead of using a power block on the cord so it is pretty good sized and I didn’t pay attention to that so I had to do so moving around. But like I said, that was my fault.

I am using this to connect multiple computers and network devices in a business office. It works perfectly, and took only as much time as required to plug it in and plug in the Cat5 cables to get it set up and running. Can’t ask for any more than that!
