I was using the older Ubiquiti access point that was only on 2.4GHz and I had lots of trouble in my apartment with the wifi. Now with the 5GHz and the ac, everything works very reliably and fast. Even Chromecast 2.0 is zippy and works like it should. I’m very happy with this product. But if you don’t know computers very well, you’ll find this hard to set up. It’s a prosumer product and emphasizes capability over ease.

This is an enterprise product so I would not recommend to a beginner, but I picked it up for my apartment and could not be more thrilled. Great throughput, easy to manage, great range.

Once you switch from the regular consumer grade AP to the Unifi you will understand the difference. The Big Boys in corporate environment have had access to high grade stuff for a while, but it was too expensive for the home use. Ubiquiti finally solved this problem. I live in a cul de sac, and for years, including a in a previous house, had been battling lousy wifi signal. I initially purchased the 2.4Ghz version, but the long range unit, and not only it absolutely eliminated the problems (I tried multiple APs, and all sorts of high powerAPs before), but now I could get connected almost 2 blocks away (and all over the cul de sac, which obviously was overkill). Now I upgraded to the dual band, regular rangeversion. It works all over the house without a hitch. Now, note it DOES require some setup, and some basic knowledge of network. It not 100% consumer grade, it is still more geared towards enterprise environment, but chances are if you know and care enough about your wifi to be annoyed by the lousy signal from other products, you probably know enough to this the unifi AP up. One more note, since I always see this question being asked: this is ONLY the AP, not the modem, switch, router, etc. Depending on your setup, you still need at least one more piece of hardware (such as, you can use the wifi or non wifi modem from the cable company which already comes with a router, and then disable their wifi, and use the Unifi AP instead, in one of the simplest setups). We cut the cord on cable TV a while back a home, and with more than 15 devices coneted at any time, including 3 chromecasts, the APs work flawlessly.

I found the configuration very easy to do and it solve all the WIFI issues i had. Also the device are very discrete and my guest think this is only a smoke detector. I have multiple Vlan and it was simple to publish different SSID for each of them.

After researching all the available consumer-grade mesh WiFi systems out there, I settled on Ubiquiti. For the same price as many of the consumer-grade systems, I’ve been able to setup a professional grade mesh WiFi network with ethernet backhaul that covers our entire house, and the outside areas we use regularly. I’ve had a few issues with other parts of the Ubiquiti system, but the access points have been flawless. If you have the experience, knowledge or patience to get a UniFi system setup, it’s absolutely the best choice you can make for a mesh WiFi system that covers your house.

Far better solution for home and small business than consumer combo routers or other APs. Excellent speed, easy to set up, rock solid, superb coverage. I regularly get 180Mbps on Oookla speedtest with a 5 Ghz device. The UniFi controller is not required for small installations – there is an phone app for setup. Hints: – Set an appropriate power level (auto is actually High) for each band – 2.4 GHz should be HT20 – lock to a channel after doing a site survey – ZHO is for very specific environments and normally shouldn’t be used

Loved the new AC setup app. This little guy works great. I have about 30 of the old models at work and have set these up in several homes. They work great.

So far so good. Installed this for my home network. Pretty easy to set up by following guides online. It is not your standard plug and play type of router/wifi combo, but if you’re looking at this you probably already know. It has not dropped a connection yet or had any problems since it’s been up. I paired this with an Edgerouter X. If you are looking to upgrade and don’t need a lot of wired connections EdgerouterX + this AP is a great combo if you are willing to spend some times setting it up.

It worked slightly. Improved the WiFi moderately. Not worth its price.

Added this AP in same place as prior Asus wifi router. Easy provision/config with controller. I’m waiting until after a remodel of back porch to add another AP out there, but right now have weaker coverage than previous router.

Once I got it working, it’s amazing. One AP covers my entire 2-story 1,800 sq. ft. house far better than anything from Netgear or TP-Link ever did. BUT, it was a total bear to set up. The controller software running on a Win 10 PC couldn’t detect it (yes, disabled the Win firewall and tried). Then I couldn’t factory reset it using the pinhole button. Tried a dozen times to no avail. I ended up SSH’ing into it from a PC on the same default subnet and issuing a command to officially reset the unit. Then it was detected and has since worked brilliantly.

I made a mistake ordering this unit – I was looking to replace a wireless router and purchased this to do so. I like Ubiquiti’s networking hardware, but made an oversight and now I have to keep the old router to give this IP addresses, etc. I was going to replace with the UBNT router, but that is a pricey way to get a simple DHCP server. We’ll see how I sort it out. For what this is – a simple, powerful and configurable wireless access point, it is a great product and a good price.

Pluses: Wonderful range, speed and ease of setup. included poe injector Minuses: No built-in UI. Must install a java program to manage remotely. Uses “passive” poe so real poe switches wont work. Take away: Great for the price, the $50 more expensive version is worth the extra. (if you have it)

An IT friend of mine suggested this wi-fi booster for my office and it was a good purchase indeed! It simply works using the existing internet provider the office already has. Exactly what I needed.
