I’ve been an enthusiast-level PC gamer and professional IT nerd for over 20 years. I’ve been building rigs since AMD’s K6-2, and along the way I’ve had lots of monitors, from CRT to TN LCDs and beyond. This long history has definitely made me picky, and I expect a lot out of brands I buy. So when I say I think ViewSonic is making one of the best budget monitors on the planet right now, I do not give this praise lightly. I recently upgraded my primary rig, and as such took the major guts and put them towards my girlfriend’s very first gaming rig. Once we got everything all set, we realized we needed a new monitor. She had already committed a significant chunk of money, so set me on a task to find the best bank for the buck. Then, JayzTwoCents did a video on this monitor. Serendipitous! This monitor has is all. 1ms, FHD or QHD options, 27 in (the absolute perfect monitor size), 144hz, FreeSync, HDMI and DisplayPort. All jammed into a STUNNING IPS panel. It sounded too good to be true, so we ordered the 1080p model ($209 at the time of order) and crossed our fingers that the backorder would pass. Several weeks went by, and finally we got a notification that the monitor had drop-shipped from the manufacturer! This arrived very quickly, and the box was in pristine condition. Once I took out the monitor, I expected that the frame and stand would be cheap, I mean, they had to be saving the money some where. I was so wrong. The body and mount and BUILT, extremely sturdy and very high quality in both looks and feel. I have a 32 144hz VA LG panel on my rig, and the frame is absolutely awful. None of that here with ViewSonic, extremely impressed. Since then, my girlfriend has had many extended gaming sessions. I’m blown away by how super smooth everything looks as well as how brilliant, bright, and crisp the colors are. She plays Slime Rancher, House Flipper, Planet Coaster, Raft and other games, and everything looks incredible. When compared side-by-side, I would absolutely take this over my LG (almost identical price bracket). Incredible picture quality. I do have two cons for this monitor. 1.) Two HDMI ports and only 1 DisplayPort. I’m used to this being flipped (1 HDMI/2 DP), and my ecosystem has evolved to accommodate DP, but alas I can learn to live with using HDMI 1a.) Comes with an HDMI cable instead of DisplayPort 2.) The menu buttons are HORRIBLE. This monitor uses the old school 5/6 button row mounted at the bottom right of the panel. After spending over a year with the newer-style joystick /omnidirectional control on my LG, this feels totally unacceptable on any modern monitor. Alas, it still exists, and hopefully will be completed abandoned by the time I need a new monitor. I’d gladly pay an extra $10-$20 for a joystick/dpad setup 3.) Weird black flashing that requires reseating the HDMI cable. I’m not sure what this is, it’s a wild flicker that comes every once in a while. I have not been able to confirm if it’s my GPU or the monitor, so I’m not dinging it for this, but I need to mention it for full transparency. If I could do it again, I’d definitely buy this ViewSonic over my comparably priced LG any day of the week. While losing the joystick control would suck, I think every inch of this monitor, from the well-built frame to the incredibly sharp screen, beats out my LG *GK650F-B

This is a very nice monitor and a good value for what you get. No wonder it was on backorder for so long. I’m glad I waited for it.

This is a great monitor at a great price, but be advised that if you plug either of the monitor’s ports (HDMI and DisplayPort) into a DisplayPort port on your video adapter, the computer will not sense the monitor’s presence when the monitor is off. This can lead to problems with remote access apps like Splashtop, which rely on the computer sensing attached monitors even when the monitors are off. It can also lead to your windows and Desktop icons getting rearranged if your monitors go to sleep. Something to keep in mind. From now on, I’m making sure any monitors I purchase have DVI ports since most of our video adapters have only DisplayPort ports.

I use this for a Mac mini and a fire stick. It looks good with both, and automatically selects the right resolution. Stand is sturdy and the monitor can be rotated, tilted and positioned horizontally or vertically. Two HDMI 2.1 ports and a display port provide high throughput connections
