The WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is a compact, portable drive designed to work right out of the box with Mac systems running macOS 10.13 and later. It comes with both USB Type-A and USB Type-C cables, so it’s compatible with both current and older systems. As a bus-powered drive, no external power sources are required. For protection, it has built-in 256-bit AES encryption and password protection. Users can also download the WD Discovery and WD Drive Utilities software to help manage their data and drive.

I purchased two of these 1 TB My Passport for MAC portable drives as gifts. I have one that I use and absolutely love it. It is compact and durable. Very easy to use. Just plug it in and you’re ready to back up your data. Works great with Time Machine! You can password protect and encrypt your data too. Would definitely purchase this again.

This WD Hard drive is great only mine stopped working a few weeks ago. Ive had it for almost 2 years. I took it with me to 8 countries and 2 months sailing the oceans, but luckily I had a back up so I didnt lose anything I cant retrieve.

I’ve had my 1TB Passport hard drive for about two weeks now and it suits my needs perfectly. Its extremely compact, lightweight and quiet. I keep it in my laptop bag and store and edit my photos from it on the go. Very convenient! I can’t speak of its longevity at this point as its only been two weeks. Hopefully it lasts! My only critique is that it may not be the most durably built hard drive but I don’t plan on abusing it.

I have used WD disks for years and this new passport works well, as have other WD products. I have only had these for a few days, but have backed up a number of large directories and the speed, using USB 3 is quick as was expected.

This little hard drive has changed my life. I have 512 GB of storage on my current MacBook Pro. But after pictures, apps, downloads, and files. I always have been getting the dreaded error message that if I want to continue I need to clear some room on the hard drive. Now all I have to do is plug this into my Mac and boom 4 times as much storage as I originally had. Plus it looks good and works exactly as I would expect. I would recommend this to anyone with a Mac, even if you are not out of storage yet. If you are a file hoarder like me that day will come and this will make your life so much easier. You won’t have to make the hard decisions of which precious files to delete! Best Purchase Ever!

I’ve used lots of external hard drives and have never had a problem with Western Digital. 5TB is an enormous amount of space. Drives that big used to require their own power cords, which I never liked, but this once plugs right into the computer’s USB port. I work with large photo files that eat up a lot of disk space, but 5TB should be enough for a while. For the price, it’s a pretty unbelievable value.

My purpose for this was to function as a Time Machine on a new Macintosh. It is small, quiet, powered by the PC and stays out of the way. Does its job well. It includes its own software on it for some sort of purpose, but I didn’t even bother to look at it: why would I when I already have Time Machine? 🙂

I need to have storage when I’m on set, and this drive provides that. Easy enough to bring a laptop with me, and plug the guy in for a quick footage dump. 4TB might have been a lot, but it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I have been replacing ( and up sizing ) all my Seagate hard drives because I have been having problems with them. WD seems to hold up better over time. Two more to replace soon.
