The WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is a compact, portable drive designed to work right out of the box with Mac systems running macOS 10.13 and later. It comes with both USB Type-A and USB Type-C cables, so it’s compatible with both current and older systems. As a bus-powered drive, no external power sources are required. For protection, it has built-in 256-bit AES encryption and password protection. Users can also download the WD Discovery and WD Drive Utilities software to help manage their data and drive.

I purchased this drive to replace my 8 year old Buffalo Wireless backup drive. The Buffalo drive took 4 hours to backup 500GB. This WD backs up the 500GB in 1 hour and 7 minutes. Both drives use the same 3rd party backup software.

I use this product to back up 3 different laptops and it works great. The software loads quickly onto the computer and is intuitive to use. Backup takes awhile but that was expected, but the program works in the background and doesnt tie up your computer. Can also be left connected and constantly update.

I have used it for a micellaneous backup drive for the time being. Once I get my new computer I will sort through it and probably have better usage for it. Very good price for 5tb external hard drive. Already formatted for Mac.It is so convenient to use. Also like the connector for dual port.It has both of USB 2 and C in one.A very good idea especially for limited numbers of port in the computer. I like it.

Didn’t even last 5 months. received on 3/22/22. Put into use on 3/23/22. Used as a backup drive (Time Machine) on a brand new iMac. The drive started disconnecting itself on 8/8/22 and will no longer mount. Never dropped or abused. It just sat on a desk for 4.5 months.
