The WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is a compact, portable drive designed to work right out of the box with Mac systems running macOS 10.13 and later. It comes with both USB Type-A and USB Type-C cables, so it’s compatible with both current and older systems. As a bus-powered drive, no external power sources are required. For protection, it has built-in 256-bit AES encryption and password protection. Users can also download the WD Discovery and WD Drive Utilities software to help manage their data and drive.

I bought this at the end of April 2021. I was skeptical when it arrived in a box with NO PROTECTION and thought it must either be very strong or surely it would not work. The first time I tried to load anything on it, it gave me an error. Tried again and it will not even show signs of life. First time I have bought anything from B&H and had it be a complete fail!

I really like this HD. I use it for back up for my photography. I like the size because it easily fits into my small fire proof safe. It’s not super fast, but fad enough for backup purposes. So far it’s been very reliable. As usual BH had great prices and fast delivery.

I have been using Western Electric for years, so I was excited to try this new drive out. I needed a portable backup for my MAC and this was perfect. I connected this up and had Time Machine running on this in no time! Pros: Very compact and portable (a little bit taller than a standard deck of cards, but thinner), easy enough to fit into your pocket Completely quiet, I have never heard a noise from the drive since using it Works seamlessly with Apple’s Time Machine The drive is very light-weight and dependable Cons: The cable they provide has an adapter to switch from usb to usb-c vs using just a having a standard usb-c ended cable. Has no rubber feet to keep it from moving around Overall this is a great product and I would highly recommend this to anyone!

I produce video, and would never depend on one of these to be the only place I have critical files stored. Eventually I expect it to stop working. But as a back-up or for excess media I’ll probably never need again, these are great.

I bought the product from B&H and installation was very simple and fast. I don’t want everything to be copied so I didn’t activate Time Machine but only copied selected items to the drive. It is very fast and I liked the way it works. So I feel it is a great product . In my short period of usage of this HD, I didn’t observe any negative points to report.
