The WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is a compact, portable drive designed to work right out of the box with Mac systems running macOS 10.13 and later. It comes with both USB Type-A and USB Type-C cables, so it’s compatible with both current and older systems. As a bus-powered drive, no external power sources are required. For protection, it has built-in 256-bit AES encryption and password protection. Users can also download the WD Discovery and WD Drive Utilities software to help manage their data and drive.

This is a great hard drive for backing up my photos. It’s not an SSD, but it’s still pretty fast, as it’s USB 3.2. I really like that fact it powers from the USB port and does not need external power. I can take it with me when I need to. Great little 2.5 drive.

It was extremely simple to install and has worked perfect for me. I use a mid 2017 Mac and have had zero issues with it. Been using for quite awhile now and might be purchasing another WD Passport however, this time with more storage.

I got this drive and formatted it for my Mac computers and have had no issues. The transfer speed is great and the size is very compact and portable. The only reason I took a star off is because of the new stupid USB naming system essentially tricked me. I thought this would be a USB C drive and it is not. The cord is the traditional USB size / shape.

Works. Reformatted for a MAC. You can download the drive utilities for MAC if you want them on the WD site. I am just using it for Time Machine backups. Good price. Enjoying the red color as it helps me know which disk. Smaller than the last one I purchased and twice the capacity.

My first Passport has lasted 5 years! Still going. but reviews say its average life span is about 4. So, I purchased this one. All my storage drives are WD. The best.

Have only used this for a few weeks now, used for storing video files shot on a 7d that are processed in FCP 10. No problems so far, USB3 seems to be just about as fast as advertised. Not sure how rugged it is as the black bit is made out of plastic, and hoping not to find out anytime soon.

It was quick to copy and load all the contents of my other external drive. It seems more rugged than the previous one (replacement for a replacement for a replacement), and I like the small size and light weight. I’ll likely buy another at some point.
