Built with the power to handle small- to medium-sized business NAS environments and increased workloads to SoHo (Small Office and Home Office) customers, the 6TB Red Plus 5400 rpm SATA III 3.5″ Internal NAS HDD from WD is made for archiving and sharing, as well as RAID array rebuilding on systems using ZFS and other file systems in NAS arrays with 1-8 bays. This 6TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 64MB cache, and a rotational speed of 5400 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 175 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 600,000 load/unload cycles, <1 in 1014 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, error recovery controls, and 1 million hours MTBF. Also built into this drive are noise and vibration protection and WD’s NASware 3.0 helps increase system compatibility, allowing WD Red Plus drives to be more easily integrated with your existing network infrastructure.

These have been my go-to drives for over 10 years for NAS and server applications. They are quiet and reliable.

These are excellent drives for a NAS

I got this for my home server and it works well and meets my storage needs at a good price

WD is my go to for hard drives. In this case it does not even power on in a Synology DS1513+. First time this has ever happen. Mixed feelings about marking it bad. For use in a Synology it was no good. I will trying in another model soon. I will update the review to show if it works in another model or not. Buying something that does not work is not fun.

I have nothing but Western Digital Red Plus disks (mostly 4 TB) in an Ubuntu server, which our PCs access. The current disks are almost four years old and in perfect condition, but I like to have a backup ready to go. The server runs ext-4 formats, and just keeps on running…knock on wood. 🙂

Western Digital drives have yet to fail on me. Most reliable drives I’ve used in the last 10 years.

One of our drives in our WD EXT2 Ultra failed so we needed a new one. Ordered this from B&H and got it within a day. Popped it in and rebuild the drive. Took several hours but all is working and backed up!

I bought this drive as a spare for my Ubuntu Linux server. I tested the disk out, and it works perfectly. These disks just run and keep on running. Knowing this is a CMR drive helps in making the selection. Also, I’ve purchased 90% or more of my drives from B&H, and it is my first choice as a retailer.
