With the 6TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD it is easy to back up important files and create system backups using the included WD Backup software for Windows or Time Machine for Mac. In addition to simplifying the backup process for both Windows and Mac computers, this hard drive features 256-bit AES hardware encryption to ensure stored files remain secure. The My Book Desktop drive features a USB 3.0 port for fast data transfers and comes exFAT formatted for Windows and Mac, making it easy to get up and running in no time.
Note: Compatibility may vary depending on user’s hardware configuration and operating system. Reformatting is required for use with Apple Time Machine.

The hdd itself work really well, cant say much about the enclosure, as i have only use them inside my PC, to me they are relatively quiet (not as quiet as 3tb reds though), but some tend to vibrate some, not a bad drives, specially for the current pricing. Warning, these drives were really good offering for shucking them, take them off the enclosure and using them on inside your pc/server, but from August 28th 2017 (production date) and newer, the drives will not load on standard sata power, the reason is there is a reset on 3.3V, you can either cover with tape the 3.3 pin on the hdd or use a Molex from your PSU and use a Molex to Sata converter, this is only if you plan on using it on your PC/Server.

Good simple to use External storage solution. Works great so far. Comes with power cord and cord to connect to computer. No manual, but not really needed. For the money, good amount of space.

I have long been a fan of WD drives. This one is no exception. Installation and use were without a hitch. I have 3 of these drives that I use for backup. This one will be for archiving of digitized video tapes.

The hard drive is used as a backup usb drive. I did perform a full reformat to NTFS – took about 18 hours with no detectable errors. I have already used about 60% and am pleased with it.

Useful backup. Large size photo files move much quicker than my older external hard drive. Good peace of mind.

Not fast, but as a backup drive, has plenty of storage. Set it up and forget it.

Even though I got this 10Tb external hard drive on sale and it actually works, a couple of little things would have rated an additional one each. #1 – Once installed it tells me it’s really only a 9.1 Tb drive. I didn’t expect the full 10Tb, but a 10% loss? Very poor. #2 – Lack of any sort of “activity” lights or explanation of such. You don’t know if the dang thing is awake, asleep, transferring data, or whatever.

Worked great and no problems what so ever.

I’ve always been a fan of Western Digital hard drives for over 10 years, and this is one is one of their best. 8TB’s is an amazing amount of storage and it’s super reliable and very fast at USB 3.0 speeds. I’m definitely looking to buy another one as a backup to this one.

Item just would just not work

It’s a big drive for a good price, not a bunch more to say. I use these to backup footage so speed is not an issue but if you are looking for blazing speed this ain’t it. I have a shelf full of these in my office and a shelf of clones at my storage unit. Good backup drive.

The two Western Digital “My Book” WEWDBBGB0100 10TB USB 3 drives I received were exFAT formatted and were immediately recognized on my Windows 7 machines. In theory any Mac OS newer than Leopard can also read and write to an exFAT disk, making it ideal for drives that are moved between Windows and Mac machines. I did not however test that on any of my Macs. However, my application for this pair of drives was to use them on a Windows 7 box with StabilBit DrivePool to create a virtual 20TB storage space, but DrivePool refused to recognize them. Only after deleting the exFAT partitions and reformatting the drives as NTFS, did DrivePool find them and worked as expected. Historically, WD has done a much better job than Seagate in providing decent ventilation for their plastic encased external drives. These 10TB My Book drives do have ventilation ports top and bottom, but WD’s older cases also had large ports along one of the long sides so I have to downgrade this design. Heat and static are the deadly enemies of hard disk drives.

I have several WD Passports and My books that I use for off site backups. I have been using some of them for 15 years and I have never had a problem with any of them.

You can’t complain about 12 TB, but you will find yourself waiting for an iTunes selection to load.

I bought the WD 6TB My Book as a backup for my personal and professional files such as videos and photos. From the reviews, I could see that some people have had bud luck with them failing or not working properly with Mac updates like Big Sur. So far, mine has not had any issues working on a 2017 iMac with Big Sur, but I’m keeping my eyes out for problems. For the price, you really can’t beat this as a backup external hard drive. I would highly suggest you keep at least one other backup of your files, and definitely don’t use this as your main hard drive for video/photo editing because it will be much slower than drives that use USB-C connections. Like I said, though, the price-per-terabyte is so much better on this hard drive, so it’s perfect for backing up old files that you don’t want clogging up your faster hard drives.
