With the 6TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD it is easy to back up important files and create system backups using the included WD Backup software for Windows or Time Machine for Mac. In addition to simplifying the backup process for both Windows and Mac computers, this hard drive features 256-bit AES hardware encryption to ensure stored files remain secure. The My Book Desktop drive features a USB 3.0 port for fast data transfers and comes exFAT formatted for Windows and Mac, making it easy to get up and running in no time.
Note: Compatibility may vary depending on user’s hardware configuration and operating system. Reformatting is required for use with Apple Time Machine.

Do not like the fact that you cannot connect this drive without plugging it in and then unplugging it when you turn the computer off. Without doing this your desktop will not boot.

Had my eye on the 8TB version and the 10TB went on sale, so I snapped it up. Am using it to back up my NAS. Takes awhile since its only USB 3.0, but it seems to get the job done. Easy to set up and use, too.

So far so good! Huge storage, smooth sound seems like good quality…needed it!! Like the 3 yes warranty vs Seagate’s 2 yes.

WD has always been reliable for me. This external has worked just fine for the time I’ve had it (about 1 month). Only con is it can be noisy only when in heavy use. No clicks or anything perceptible, its a deep low level hum, didn’t notice it at first, it was vibrating the table it was on. I put it on a platform to separate it from the table and it’s much quieter. Not a big deal and I wouldn’t let it dissuade you from buying it.

A little slow but works fine for storage.

Works right out of the box. I connected it to a TABLO DVR with no difficulty, Records, plays, and/or delete TV recordings. It also runs surprisingly cool (as compared to my previous experience of comparable devises in years past.

You can get a seagate for cheaper with extra USB ports but they fail a lot. I bought 20 WD and 3 seagate drives over the years. 2 seagates failed. All WD drives still running.

I’m using the WD 8TB My Book as my Time Machine on my Mac. It works great, makes for a seamless solution to backup on a regular basis.

I have four external WDs, three of this exact model. It’s a fine external HD, no complaints after many years of use. It’s hard to know if one HD brand is best, but switched to WD years ago after problems with Seagate. I’m just one person so the sample size is small, but when you find what works for important data, you stay with it.

these are much better than the 2tb drive they put out, the ones that were bus powered. anything over 1tb had better have external power supply

I had Western Digital hard drives several years ago (like 10+ years ago) and was not overly pleased. But needing a new external hard drive, and seeing several good reviews, I ventured to try WD again. So far I am very satisfied. Virtually a plug-play set up. No more formatting for Mac or wonky software. If you’re looking for an external drive, give it a try. I’m happy so far.

Excellent price point for the amount of space you get.

I have been using a My Book 8TB External Hard Drive for the past two years now and it works great, the only negative would be that it takes a few seconds for it to wake-up after a long period of time (over an hour). But really, a few seconds, maybe 15 to 20 seconds. I have lost no data, have been able to use as a portable device between my desktop and either of two laptops when traveling or exhibiting at conferences. I use a large amount of storage and have just purchased 3 new 8TB My Books for the new storage system we are going to be employing. So for us, a business, we are very happy, I am very sure this device will please any personal user and most small businesses depending on your storage needs.

I wish this had a USB C adapter in booth sides instead of the regular Micro B, its 2022!

I love WD hard drives! Simply plug it in and you’re good to go. As a video producer, I’m amassing quite a collection of hard drives. I love the 4TB capacity of this drive because it holds a ton of files.

Brought this WD My Book for a back up unit. Worked great for about 1.5 weeks. Then failed. Despite about seven or eight back and forth exchanges with their tech support, the issue was never resolved. It now sits in a cupboard, only used 1.5 weeks, but not usable.
