It works. It holds data. It’s relatively fast. I’ve only had this for a week or so, but so far so good. Took about 6 hours to back up my old 2012 13MBP (750 GB or so) through Time Machine. Took about 3 hours to restore my new 2019 16MBP from that Time Machine backup. Upgrade/supplement to my old WD 1.5 TB FW/USB external. Looks pretty on my desk. Is pretty quiet (definitely quieter than the 1.5 TB). I do appreciate that it doesn’t have The Lighthouse of Alexander on the front, blazing away when it’s plugged in.

The drive works well under Windows 10. It works via USB2 which is what I only initially had. After installing USB3, the speed improvement was very noticeable. There seems to be a problem with its usage under Windows 10. Every time I restart Windows or log back on, I get an error saying errors were found on the MyBook and for me to run a scan. When I run a scan, the scan window just stays on the same screen without any acknowledgement that the scan has been started. To make it worse, it does not allow you to cancel the scan. To get rid of the window, you have to log out and log back on or restart your Windows session. I used the WD Drive Utilities to perform a full check of the drive which took about 6 hours to complete. No errors were found. Hopefully this resolves the hard drive error message I keep getting.

I have used many many Western Digital Drives and they are always extremely reliable. I have never had a lemon. I have never used the software that WD advertises, I always just wipe the drives and use my own software. For my purposes these are hard to beat!

Would have given it 5 stars but it had no instructions and came with a boot partition on the drive that hung the machine on reboot until I change the BIOS settings to avoid looking at USB drives.

It works technically fine but this drive hums and buzzes and is just generally very loud. I have several generations of these drives on my desk, including some 4TB and 2TB models but this one is the only one I have noise issues with.

This is my 3rd redundant WD external hard drive (all at once), to ensure backup of my data. I recently suffered a total hard drive failure of my computer. Bought new computer, ran everything including my back up email over to new computer, and I’m fine with no lost data. You cannot afford to not buy one of these if you have a computer!

Trying to get all my files backed up. Yikes this is a pain but the Mybook is not adding its helping, (More tech is Helping?} It is recognized on 3 computers, they each assign a different drive letter which adds more confusion. Probably something that could be corrected. So far its a blessing.

Very quiet. Very fast. If you’re going to reformat to APFS, which I did, I suggest finding instructions online first. After I did that, I had zero problems. As always, B&H has great prices and fast shipping.
