With the 6TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD it is easy to back up important files and create system backups using the included WD Backup software for Windows or Time Machine for Mac. In addition to simplifying the backup process for both Windows and Mac computers, this hard drive features 256-bit AES hardware encryption to ensure stored files remain secure. The My Book Desktop drive features a USB 3.0 port for fast data transfers and comes exFAT formatted for Windows and Mac, making it easy to get up and running in no time.
Note: Compatibility may vary depending on user’s hardware configuration and operating system. Reformatting is required for use with Apple Time Machine.

Super glitchy – almost never registers. Do not recommend..

I bought these to be Time Machine backup targets. Since I have an iMac I just had to format them to HFS+, which is required for Time Machine. They have been working great for the few weeks I’ve had them. I will update if I have problems. I like the 3-year warranty.

The 12 TB My Book external hard drive repeatedly lost connection with my Windows 10 PC. I returned the hard drive.

This is a fast and silent external drive with plenty of space. It seems to not get too hot as I have moved 9TB over on it. This drive seems like a big step-up from my elements drive.

Ok

Never had an issue with them, but don’t use them as extensively as I do my premium drives. Mostly use these as deep duplicate back up and always work fine.

Bought for backup to my portable. Can be slightly slow, but otherwise fine.

If you are looking for a USB 3 outboard drive for your PC, look no further than WD. I’ve been using WD my book drives for 12 years now. I’ve run individual drives as long as 5 or 6 years, I’ve never experienced a failure. Now that 4 TB seems to be the minimum drive size, we all need to remember they need to be exFAT-formatted (Windows). While this provides access to the full 4 TB of the drive, the sector sizes are much larger than with NTFS, meaning the drive is wasteful of space if your average file size is small. Such is the price of progress.
