With the 6TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from WD it is easy to back up important files and create system backups using the included WD Backup software for Windows or Time Machine for Mac. In addition to simplifying the backup process for both Windows and Mac computers, this hard drive features 256-bit AES hardware encryption to ensure stored files remain secure. The My Book Desktop drive features a USB 3.0 port for fast data transfers and comes exFAT formatted for Windows and Mac, making it easy to get up and running in no time.
Note: Compatibility may vary depending on user’s hardware configuration and operating system. Reformatting is required for use with Apple Time Machine.

This is my second of these 14TB My Book hard drives. They are running together on my iMac as a JBOD for the Time Machine backup. Currently, the Time Machine backup is at 14.73TB. The new one, just like the older one, worked right out of the box after I reformatted it. So far, no troubles whatsoever on either one. Eventually, I suppose, I’ll be getting a third. Eventually, of course, they’ll fail; all drives fail, it is just a question of when. (That’s why it’s all also backed up in the cloud.) If the new one lasts as long as the first one, though, I imagine I’ll just get new ones to replace these when they fail.

Bought two of these as a double backup RAID drive for my video files and work on 3/2/17. Impressed with the build quality and packaging. Using on a Mac laptop. They are ever so slightly loud when you plug them in to the wall unit. I wish read and write times were faster. Bang for buck though seems to be worth it.

This is a top of the line HD. WD makes quality products and I have been using their external HDs for years, and never had any issues. This drive provides a ton of storage space and has fast data transfer. I use it with my gaming PC to store my games, some of which use a lot of storage space, and this drive works great. Easy to back-up my PC to the drive also. Only negative is the drive is very pricey, but i figure I won’t be filling this thing up anytime soon. Highly recommended if you can swing the cost.

I bought it for its great capacity and low cost, I always use LACIE and I must say that the quality of construction is superior with respect to WD, I rely more on Seagate discs of Lacie in exchange for wd, time will tell

The drive has been very unstable since I bought it and I think its just a matter of time when it will fail me. The drive disconnects from my computer very often and is making a weird noise. I contacted BandH and they told me to contact Western Digital and they told me to contact BandH. In the end nobody wanted to be responsible for the hard drive so I just have to buy a new one, but not this one. Definitely wont recommend this product.

I’ve bought only WD external hard drives over the years and have had great success with them, this one no exception, except I miss the activity light that has been on all my other WD drives. Disappointing!!

Needed storage for full-system backups. This holds about 2 months of backups before needing cleaned up.

Using this drive to create a backup from my Synology NAS. Was the right size for the right price!

Can’t beat the price for a lot of storage, but I just wish it had a power switch. But I understand most if not all WD drives are missing this feature, so I guess I can’t be picky.

I waited weeks for the backorder, then finally got it last week. It took over 2 days to copy my music and video to it, and I did one backup of the music by freeing another 2T HD. Meanwhile I had accidentally deleted images from a memory card when I meant to copy them. Recovery software wouldn’t recognize the files in the camera so I had to order a card reader. I did that a couple of days ago and used easeUS recovery software to get some of the images back. The computer rebooted, and the letter of the 10T, k changed to that of the card F. And now I found that I can’t add anything to the drive, or delete, I can’t backup either. All give error messages. Initial call to WD during their stated phone hours gave a closed message. In email, I was told to do some tests, the longest of which took 16 hours. All passed and no explanation could be given why the drive appears locked. At least I could copy from it the new stuff that was added, and I copied back to the even more crowded original drive. They said it would take 5-10 business days to send a new drive. (B&H was closed for some holidays).
