Used in a 8 drive NAS and they are quiet, fast and huge. 5 year warranty is great too.

I bought two of these WD 10TB Ultrastar 7200 rpm SATA internal hard drives for my new CyberPower PC and had B&H install them before they shipped the system to me. The first one is for moving photo files in and out to Adobe Lightroom for processing, the second for backup storage of my photo files. This way I keep these data intensive RAW files (and processed jpgs) off of my main PC drives.

Great and it’s work good. Somewhere in Africa (Ghana)

Purchased 5 for our Synology DS1019+, work excellent

I have a giant stack of these. They are functional for all different purposes, especially nice in a raid.

I purchased this to replace a video drive in my desktop computer. So far so good, really easy to install and format, seems to be very fast. I’m very happy with this purchase!

I’ve been running this thing almost constantly for the last several months. It’s a fast hdd and it fit into my quick swap bay. It can be a bit loud compared to consumer drives, but it’s not very disruptive or obnoxious

We have been running four of these in a Drobo 5D for over a year now. No problems. Don’t understand complaints about noise, since these are usually used in a unit that can be hidden under the desk or away from your ears. Usually the noise comes from cooling fan or other sheet metal of the drive container (Drobo in my case), not the drive itself.

Bought a four pack of these during most recent sale. Came sealed and well-packaged in four individual retail boxes within the original manufacturer’s four-pack box. Fill Volume with DiskTester revealed very consistent read and write speeds with no evidence of malfunction. Average Read/Write speeds (using Mac file system) over the entire disk was ~ 185 +/- 35 MiB/s for all four drives. All four now installed in TB3 Thunderbay as SoftRAID RAID-4. Running smoothly and quietly. Should have bought a fifth drive while on sale as a backup volume should one of the four drives in the RAID fail. Will probably pay the extra $50 for that mistake. Saved enough by using the PayBoo card to more than cover the difference between sale and non-sale prices though.. Excellent service from B&H as always.

Got 6 of these drives to upgrade in my NAS replacing old 4TB drives. They came well packaged and I ran badblocks on all of them which took ~6 days to complete all 4 passes and comparisons. All of them passed with no errors and have been up and running for a 3-4 weeks 2/7 with no issue.

would have nothing else in my machine

After 3.5 years, both HDDs (HGST Deskstars, 3 year warranty) in my Synology 216+ NAS started to get bad sectors. I could not find information on what an acceptable limit for the number of bad sectors would be, so when one HDD showed 700 and the other 200 bad sectors over a span of 3 months, I decided to upgrade to the WD 10TB Ultrastars. The Synology OS makes upgrading easy: replace one drive at a time and choose ‘repair’ which in my case rebuilds the RAID 1 of my system. The process took about 8 hours per drive. Afterwards, I elected to create a new disk volume since the new drives have more capacity than the drives they replaced. So far everything works as advertised. The real test is how long these new HDDs will last…

This is my second WD12TB HDD. The first was the WD Gold, however, it’s now been replaced by the WD Ultrastar. Both of these HDD are enterprise drives which it just about bullet proof. My need for such a high quality drive is to store my music files. My first WD Gold 12TB was purchased two years ago and has worked perfectly. I now needed a second one and did not hesitate to purchase the WD Ultrastar 12TD. I would without hesitation highly recommended WD enterprise class HDD with your data.

I’ve generally bought 4TB WD Black drives, because I think that they are well made and should last. I had a problem with one last year (a couple of sectors that became unreadable), so I decided to got with the 6TB Ultrastar, instead of getting the 6TB Black, to see whether its durability would be better. It’s early days yet – I won’t know the answer to that question for a few years (actually, I hope more than a few), but so far the drive has been impressively undramatic: fast, quiet, no problems running a dd of the whole disk, no problems rsyncing 4TB of data onto it. I hope the non-drama continues unabated for many yearts. If that happens, I’ll bump the rating to a 5.

Fingers crossed, I’ve never had a WD or HGST drive fail even with 3x as many power on hrs (30,000+ hrs) as other major brands that failed. This Ultrastar is quiet and stays relatively cool for a 7200 RPM drive.

After the exchange (waiting for weeks – return and waiting for reship), everything working as intended.

I bought these to replace 6 year old Western Digital Reds and ended up deciding to buy another Synology NAS to minimize worry about hardware failure. I demoted the old NAS to an occasional backup that would be turned off most of the time (one 3 tb Red just recently failed at 50K hours). That sets up an easy and unfortunately compelling comparison: these drives are much noisier than the virtually silent Reds in the old NAS. The reason I bought these drives is that around the net Red reviews vary substantially. These, of course, aren’t reviewed much yet. Fingers crossed and somewhat remorseful.

This is the fourth WD 12TB drive I have purchase for my Synology Network Attached Storage device, also purchased from B&H, and I couldn’t be happier with the price, the products and the service. Although the last two drives I purchased were on back order, B&H sent regular emails to let me know I had not been forgotten and this was much appreciated.
