I couldn’t get this drive to boot up in my recently purchased 2-DRIVE DOCK USB 3.1 G2/USB 3 10GB/S. I have another dock, and it doesn’t boot up in that one either. I have other drives, and they all work in both docks. I’ll be returning it.

Used in a 8 drive NAS and they are quiet, fast and huge. 5 year warranty is great too.

This is my fifth 8 TB version of the HGST heritage drives. The last three are post Western Digital. I also have many 4 TB units from when that was the sweet spot. I’ve had no failures from any of them and the performance has been very good for a spinning disk. In the last year, I’ve been working from all solid state disks and the two units in my video workstation are powered down until I need them. Two others are in canisters off site. I expect them to last a long time in this use case. This purchase is for my local media server which has no redundancy except that all the files still exist where they were created and can rebuilt in the case of a drive failure. I’m not too worried in the short run based on past experience. In the long run, this and every other disk will be policy-replaced when I start to worry.

I purchased two and one was DOA. B&H replaced it no issues, however it brings into question is WD is lowering their quality standards to bring the price down. The replacement works just great and both easily hit their rated speeds. Here’s to hoping they last like my previous WD drives.

Being an IT manger we are Using these drives for all our backups and it never failed on us This is the most reliable drive in the market! I am using this version and previous versions from last 15 years!

Works great so far! Great way to increase the storage space on our NAS at an affordable price

Everyone I know used to swear by WD, and I have been in tech companies since 1992. I bought this kit for a great price and tossed them into a cheap asmedia based dual drive dock. Even cloning I did not see temps above 30 degrees C. They were quiet. The reputation for reliability is solid. I did hear some clicking in the random write tests of CristalDiscmark, but other that that they were dead quiet!

I bought these drives to go in my new NAS because I’m hope they are as reliable as my 7 year old 4TB HGST drives. They are a louder than the old model but they are quick.

Fast delivery. This is my first 14TB drive. Working great as described.
Vern Kerluke (verified owner) –
This is a really good speed drive for SATA and even more quieter than WD RED NAS 7200 drives i purchased previously! Very good speeds achieved via RAID-10 compared with RAID-1 before.

Purchased 5 for our Synology DS1019+, work excellent
Billy Goldner (verified owner) –
Drives are well packed in these retail boxes, this gives me confidence to have them posted and arrive in good condition. Super fast postage too, so I’m very happy.

I ordered a two pack of these drives in May for expansion of our Synology NAS. We’ve been away from of our of office because of Covid, so I didn’t install the drives until July. One drive worked fine, the other didn’t. SMART info could not be read. Synology’s drive health test reported an Access Error. I went with an Ultrastar Enterprise-Class drive for reliability. They claim a 2M hour MTBF rate. I guess that counts only if it works out of the box. B&H wouldn’t help because the return window had passed so I have to get an RMA from Western Digital, and pay to send it to them. Then, in a couple weeks I might get a used, repaired drive back. This was the hassle I was hoping to avoid.

I needed this internal drive for in-computer storage capacity. It works as expected, and was easy to install.
Malinda Parker (verified owner) –
After 5 months of use on a UPS, drive unmounted unexpectedly and would not remount Changed enclosures, ports with no success.
Bonnie Herzog (verified owner) –
They have worked flawlessly so far and there is nothing more than you can ask for a HDD…
Floy Leuschke (verified owner) –
Big, fast, quiet, and dependable so far. That’s why I have stayed with WD drives for over 20 years now. Initialized it in Win10, did a quick format and was ready to go.

B&H delivered as promised. Two 12 TB Ultrastar drives in their original sealed WD retail packaging. Both drives installed in my NAS with zero issues and are performing as expected.

This is packaged for retail sale. However, inside is a standard latest-release DC HC510 drive, with He10 Helium technology. Comes with full five year factory warranty (easily checked by testing the S/N at hgst.com/portal/site/en/support/warranty/ ) These are the highest-performance, lowest power, most reliable HDD’s out there.

I have purchased mostly WD drives in the past and I think that the performance for this hard disk drive is great, and reliability appears the same. I purchased this drive to replace a smaller one in my Synology NAS, and the SMART tests show a clean bill of health. Some of the reasons I purchased this drive was that I felt the price/TB value proposition for an enterprise class drive is really great. Also, the 2.5M hours MTBF and a 5 year limited warranty was really appealing to me as well. Like I said, this replaced a disk in my NAS, so as far as noise I have not really noticed a difference from before I replaced it. Out of the drives in my NAS, it is the one running the coolest at 32c at idle. I have only had this drive for a little over a month, but I love WD drives and I would not hesitate to purchase one again.
