I always use to buy Hitachi drives. For 20+ years it is all I would put in my computers. Then they were bought out by WD. They are using Hitachi’s technology so I buy WD now. Haven’t had any problems. With this drive I now have 22 terabytes of video storage in my current desk top computer. This one seems a little faster than my two 6 terabyte drives.

Great value and perfect for accesible archiving storage.

Perfect!

Almost half of the WD 14TB drives we have purchased in the last 6 weeks have been defective. The drives will not mount and there is a nasty mechanical sound from inside the drive.

I got this thing since my WD black and server grade drives have had a lot less issues over the years than anything else I have used, and in fact this drive is replacing a batch of air filled drives from 2009-2013 that haven’t died yet. Assuming you get the 12 TB Ultrastar (right now) you should be getting helium drives and they run considerably cooler than the air ones. Just wish that Ultrastars of different model were more widely available, if you buy from amazon for example most third parties will have to RMA thru them, only a few places like B&H have direct WD warranty. As such I had to get this 512e instead of 4Kn model, but I guess it would still be better for compatibility reasons if I ever decides to run say windows 7 and use that to read this thing…

These are much quieter then the WD Black HDD.

Need large drive for video files. Easy install in my HP 840Z workstation. Works great.

Fingers crossed, I’ve never had a WD or HGST drive fail even with 3x as many power on hrs (30,000+ hrs) as other major brands that failed. This Ultrastar is quiet and stays relatively cool for a 7200 RPM drive.

I bought this to store all my photos, and 14TB gives me a lot of storage. It works fast, but it is much noisier than other slower and smaller internal drives — especially when I copied over a couple of terrabytes of files to it from an external drive. And the 5-year retail warranty is nice to have. I would have rated this 5 stars if it were quieter.

After the exchange (waiting for weeks – return and waiting for reship), everything working as intended.

This is the fourth WD 12TB drive I have purchase for my Synology Network Attached Storage device, also purchased from B&H, and I couldn’t be happier with the price, the products and the service. Although the last two drives I purchased were on back order, B&H sent regular emails to let me know I had not been forgotten and this was much appreciated.

Use these in a Synology DS1817 NAS box They have been running 24/7 for over a year with no issues. Judging from other reviews these are some of the most reliable drives you can purchase and really well priced at B&H

Purchased several. Used in primarily in a listed server. So it should be supported. 50% (no exaggeration), had to be sent back for RMA. I have 1 that has come back twice. Not worth the effort. Stay away. You’ve been warned.

Use the Ultrastar 12TB with the OWC Drive Dock USB Type-C Dual Drive Bay Solution as my computer’s backup. No complaints. So far, so good.
Opal Sporer (verified owner) –
It came on time and is quiet. It has a large cache. I am expecting a long life from this drive.

I purchased this to replace a video drive in my desktop computer. So far so good, really easy to install and format, seems to be very fast. I’m very happy with this purchase!
Jaunita Kertzmann (verified owner) –
This is Ultrastar which was Hitachi brand in Western Digital. No problem with disk drives.
Johanna Littel (verified owner) –
So far it is working good, it is not completely quiet, but it is quieter than previous WD gold generation, it works cool and looks well made.
Maude Dickinson (verified owner) –
I bought two of these WD 10TB Ultrastar 7200 rpm SATA internal hard drives for my new CyberPower PC and had B&H install them before they shipped the system to me. The first one is for moving photo files in and out to Adobe Lightroom for processing, the second for backup storage of my photo files. This way I keep these data intensive RAW files (and processed jpgs) off of my main PC drives.

There are retail packaging but inside is the latest helium Ultrastar drive, with S/N that verifies on the HGST enterprise warranty site for full five year warranty. It doesn’t get better than this. Current pricing under $30/TB for 12TB.
