Bought this with recommendation of Marco at B&H. Works great with my synology NAS

I got this thing since my WD black and server grade drives have had a lot less issues over the years than anything else I have used, and in fact this drive is replacing a batch of air filled drives from 2009-2013 that haven’t died yet. Assuming you get the 12 TB Ultrastar (right now) you should be getting helium drives and they run considerably cooler than the air ones. Just wish that Ultrastars of different model were more widely available, if you buy from amazon for example most third parties will have to RMA thru them, only a few places like B&H have direct WD warranty. As such I had to get this 512e instead of 4Kn model, but I guess it would still be better for compatibility reasons if I ever decides to run say windows 7 and use that to read this thing…

I put 4 of these 2TB drives in a Raid 5 array video surveillance recorder a month ago (NVR4) . They are relatively quite, setup without a glitch, and perform well.

I’ve used and enjoyed WD drives for years, and have always found them reliable. I recently bought 6 of these to put in a RAID enclosure. 1 of the 6 was DOA. Fine, I know these things can happen (and I’m pretty sure this was the first such occurrence with a WD drive for me). Bought as part of a 2-pack, so had to return 2 to B&H. They shipped 2 new ones, and both were DOA. Tried in multiple enclosures. Same clicking/buzzing sound on all 3 drives and the same error: Could not write to last block of device. So 3 out of 8 drives were bad. QC issues? Not sure; the original bad drive was manufactured in Jul 2020, and the 2 replacements were from Sept 2019. Can’t really evaluate their performance as I’m still waiting to use the working drives. Seems like other people have had better luck.

I just bought two of these drives. They arrived yesterday. One seems to be working fine. The other one never booted up on either of my computers. After multiple failed attempts, I am returning the dead one. I feel lucky that even one of the two drives worked. It’s a sad state of affairs when 50% is the new 100% here at B&H.

Does everything you expect a hard disk to do. Delivered fast, packaged well.

We bought two drives to make a Raid 1 mirror in a NAS. No issues and very straight forward during the installs.

Good value for price. Use it for large back up’s in NAS system.

It’s working as good as it shows… satisfied…

This is my second WD12TB HDD. The first was the WD Gold, however, it’s now been replaced by the WD Ultrastar. Both of these HDD are enterprise drives which it just about bullet proof. My need for such a high quality drive is to store my music files. My first WD Gold 12TB was purchased two years ago and has worked perfectly. I now needed a second one and did not hesitate to purchase the WD Ultrastar 12TD. I would without hesitation highly recommended WD enterprise class HDD with your data.

This has to be the perfect choice for storing large volumes of files for backup, or backup images, collections of very large files. The 7200 RPM speed allows the drive to maintain a good performance. While no HDD is going to match an SSD, the speed and space of this beast is amazing. It easily fit into an external storage enclosure. I use a USB 3.1/3.2 connection to move the data. If you have large files, or backup images that need to be stored, this is a good choice.

This is my first time to buy online out of my country, frankly it was an awesome experience, get the product faster than my expectation, with professional package. Many Thanks

Perfect for cold or hot data storage. Exactly what I expected. Solid Construction.

I would not buy any other model or brand of drive. The Western Digital gold series has been proven to last longer than many other drives. I recommend using this drive in a RAID 5 or 6 configuration as you will have the benefit of redundancy just in case any drive should fail.

Just got the drive. Unpacked it, installed it and it started making weird noises and failed on initializing. $150 paper weight.
Hershel Krajcik (verified owner) –
Fast and robust, check in 5 years to see if it lasted, hoping it does.

Ordered item a few weeks ago to use as a spare drive in a new NAS. The drive unfortunately, is not functional. I now have an overpriced paper weight. Will be interesting to see how/if i can get this replaced.
