I got this thing since my WD black and server grade drives have had a lot less issues over the years than anything else I have used, and in fact this drive is replacing a batch of air filled drives from 2009-2013 that haven’t died yet. Assuming you get the 12 TB Ultrastar (right now) you should be getting helium drives and they run considerably cooler than the air ones. Just wish that Ultrastars of different model were more widely available, if you buy from amazon for example most third parties will have to RMA thru them, only a few places like B&H have direct WD warranty. As such I had to get this 512e instead of 4Kn model, but I guess it would still be better for compatibility reasons if I ever decides to run say windows 7 and use that to read this thing…

I use these drives to create a pair of backups of all my files, particularly images. They are reliable ( never had a failure) and cost effective. B&H ships these out with 2 day delivery! Very happy with my purchase and B&H!

I purchased two of these from B&H to replace my 6-year-old Seagate Hybrid HDD’s. Well priced at $175 apiece and they appear to be working just fine. Ask me in 6 months and again in 1 year. The drives, however, a 5-year limited warranty so if something goes wrong I can RMA them with WD!

I have always chosen former HGST’s Ultrastar for its reliability. As I did a lot of research, I found that the WD Gold Ultrastar HDD, enterprise class, was what I should buy now, rather than WD’s red versions. The 6TB version of Gold Ultrastar is quieter and less power-consuming than 8TB or 10TB version. It’s also a lot quieter than my old 4TB Ultrastar that I purchased about 5 years ago. The power consumption is 7.0W when in operation and only 5.9W when idle. If you need a drive with a higher capacity and a lower power-consumption than this 6TB version, you need to get one with 12TB or more, according to WD’s spec sheet. I would highly recommend this drive.

Outstanding

I got this hard drive to put pictures on and to be accessed via a USB enclosure. The performance is great and as expected, but the drive is a bit loud. I should have expected this as it is an enterprise drive and its data sheet details its acoustic levels, but it is still louder than I wanted.

Still waiting to see if all five that I ordered certify before passing judgement on them as drives, but I was frustrated to see that they’re all dated December 2020. That means they’ve been sitting on the shelf for over a year and effectively makes the warranty four years rather than five.

works great.

After the exchange (waiting for weeks – return and waiting for reship), everything working as intended.

I have 4 of them in RAID 10………….. they rock !!

I needed this internal drive for in-computer storage capacity. It works as expected, and was easy to install.

Got two of these for my new Synology DS218+. Work flawlessly.

We bought two drives to make a Raid 1 mirror in a NAS. No issues and very straight forward during the installs.

I’ve been running this thing almost constantly for the last several months. It’s a fast hdd and it fit into my quick swap bay. It can be a bit loud compared to consumer drives, but it’s not very disruptive or obnoxious

Have been using Hgst drives for years. The quality and MTBF keeps me coming back to them.

I didn’t know about 4Kn drives. Nothing in the description says about this. It doesn’t spin down. There are only certain enclsoures that will work with this drive. I’ve tried 3 different enclosures and the drive will not stop spinning. I would love to send it back and get another seagate ironwolf. My other seagate ironwolfs i have no issues with.

This is a really good speed drive for SATA and even more quieter than WD RED NAS 7200 drives i purchased previously! Very good speeds achieved via RAID-10 compared with RAID-1 before.

I’ve had good luck with both Deskstar and Ultrastar drives over the last 8 years, in fact they all still function, so that was my natural choice, these are used in a NAS that runs 24/7. Some people have said they are noisy, while they might be a little noisier than IronWolf or EXOS drives, the difference is very minimal and not an issue unless the drive sits right next to you all day long.

Very Good.

This is Ultrastar which was Hitachi brand in Western Digital. No problem with disk drives.
