Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Great compact HDD with lots of storage. Got myself two of these in 4TB to replace my old 1TB, 2TB chunky powered HDDs. A hell lot more portable and simpler without all the extra cables and weight. Transfer speed quite good between 80-100MB/sec on average over USB 3.0 – small files still a lot slower though but this is the same for all HDD. Really like the metal look which I feel helps with passive cooling.

This is a nice, compact drive that is also aesthetically pleasing. It worked great once I got it connected, but I had to replace the included USB C cable in order to do that. The connections were very loose, and ill-fitting. Drive would not mount until I changed the cable.

Love this drive. Using it with both Mac and Windows laptops as a backup and external storage for big or only occasionally needed stuff. Partitioned half into HFS+ to be used as Time Machine target and half into exFAT for everything else. Haven’t done any speed tests, for the purposes described above, it feels fast enough. On the cons side — it’s a little thicker that it’s 1TB version, so if you’re planning on carrying it around, consider 1TB as well.

I like the slim design & more importantly the possibility of having the files safe by adding a password along with setting up regular back up . This is not my On the Go drive when I need top leave my desktop and travel light.

Very easy to use. Didn’t need 500GB, but this was the smallest size I could find! I’d already purchased one of these for myself, and it’s been in use for a number of months for backups. One of the backups was crucial as I’d had a meltdown of my internal hard disk, and this saved the day. So, I bought another one for my wife. It had to be red, of course! The USB 3.0 is a speedy transfer, too. B&H always comes through, too, with low price and quick delivery.
