Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

How I use this product: – I have been using the WD My Passport portable HDDs in 2TB sizes since 2009 with no problems to keep my volumes of images + videos as a photographer. It’s where I keep organized archives of finished JPEGs of work I might need to bring up again and RAW files of all my work with their changes. Because I shoot much more, I decided to upgrade to the 3TB size. What’s great about it: – For a portable, self-powered portable HDD, this thing transfers pretty fast with USB 3.0. I usually get speeds around 75MB/sec 120MB/sec using my PC from 2012. It’s very compact and if you get even the neoprene case that they make for it (costs only a few bucks), you can be confident it’ll be safe with decent everyday handling & care. What’s not so great about it: – I feel like you may want to take care of the port where you insert the USB 3.0 cord. It does seem like it can wiggle a bit if you move it around a lot. As with any cords, it’s always a good maintenance measure to take when you keep the cords positioned so it is not bending too much or wiggling. Overall: – I plan to get another one for 2017 when the time comes. I haven’t had any failure and I’ve dropped some of them a couple times on a mildly hard surface, once or twice and they’ve been fine. Good transfer speed and portable size, I like it! =

It is amazing how much smaller this 2TB drive is compared to my other 2TB drive from a few years ago. Portability is key.

Use this for my Xbox One. It just works great. Now I have 3TB of storage overall. The color even matches my Forza 6 blue bundle. USB powered…awesome. Sits behind the xbox. Can’t even see it. Hooking it up was crazy easy.

Excellent drive. The software preforms backups and checks the drive. The drive also has a nice look to it.

I use this drive for archiving video projects. I have two drives that are twins, just in case one fails. The USB 3.0 interface is speedy, but of course not as fast as an internal SATA drive. That being said, this takes up much less room and serves its purpose. I’m super pleased. No complaints whatsoever.

Great price and service. But, so far I haven’t been able to get the backup to work. So, it might be an expensive paper weight.

Main reason I bought, B&H beat all of it’s competitors pricing. Product was very easy to use and exactly what I needed. Quality of product was excellent, did not have any issues with computer recognizing drive and/or transfering files. Also, the drive is extremely lightweight and portable!

I purchased this 3TG Passport drive because my existing 750 MB backup drive (also a Passport) had run out of space due to a large amount of RAW photo files. The drive capacity is large enough to handle full backups of my main 256 GB SSD boot/program drive plus my 2 TB data drive. I cleaned up my old Passport and now use it for daily incremental file backups while the new drive is used for intermittent full drive backups. The drive is connected to a powered USB3 hub so the fast transfer speed makes it useful for full system backups. One caveat when installing in a Windows 10 system: The OS did not recognize the drive when first initialized – not the drive’s fault. I had to assign a drive letter through the Disk Management screen (Right-Click on the main Windows icon). So far, everything is working well.

OK, it’s not the fastest drive but I didn’t expect it to be. I use it for backup and it’s been perfect (OS X). It’s a nice 5T for a great price.

I already had several WD hard drives, all working great. This one seems to be just as good. The only thing I was sort of expecting this time was a USB-C cable (3.1) instead of the standard USB, given that the new laptops will likely have USB C.

Easily setup and configured. Excellent upload and retrieval speeds. Excellent offloading storage of photos from laptop. Highly recommended! Would certainly purchase again should the need arise.

I use this drive for back up of my 2TB RAID D drive. I works just fine though a little slow because it is a 5,200 RPM HD. Also, the WD software allows another back up, (2 more actually), to an external 2TB hdd from another Manufacturer. The – 1 star isn’t really fair because a small, portable drive like this has RPM limits and isn’t the same as a 3.5 in drive with a separate power source. Once the initial back up, in my case 1.6 TBs, has run, additional backing up isn’t an issue. I only use WD hdds because reliability with other manufacturer’s drives hasn’t worked out so well for me over the years. Nice, small, & really portable to easily take and use some where else. Quality is WDs usual excellent . WD also has the best customer service of all.

I am a photographer, I used to take nearly 300 pictures a week and each image would be around 30mb of size (since i use RAW mode to capture the photo). I need this hard drive to take a backup of my photo’s. The hard drive is too fast to copy the photos and very reliable.

So far it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. I am the little concerned about how tight the fit is between the cable and the hard drive have decided to leave he connected all the time.

I use this drive for backing up my important data and moving large files between computers. I like that the drive gets its power directly from the USB port and doesn’t need a power pack.

I got this because I need a backup hard drive and the discount price was great. It does the job will and looks really nice. So far, I don’t have any problems with it. Hope it can keep it that way.
