Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I was looking for a portable hard disk to replace an existing 3 year old seagate model. The price was the cheapest i could find for a 1.5TB portable disk and i was amazed to see the slim profile. Its very easy to carry during travel. Had no issues plugging in and using it on my windows 8 laptop. USB 3.0 offers noticeable speed improvements.

I am very happy with my new My Passport 1 TB HD. My laptop was able to recognize and use this HD without any problems (as opposed of other USB 3.0 HDs or thumb drives that I’ve used). This HD is light and compact (again compared to another portable I have). Lots of storage space for family pictures and music.

I’m hoping to find a different cable but the one that came with this hard drive doesn’t plug into any USB-C ports

I have purchased WD drives for many years now and have not had a failure yet, and I expect the Ultra to continue in that tradition.

I have four of these and use them mostly for running continuous backups of the computers in the house. The software that comes with them works well and gets the job done. Also, when I travel, I’ll transfer all of my raw images onto one of these drives as a backup to what is on my notebook so I have two copies to bring home.

I’ve utilized this drive for about a month now. It holds up well and has been reliable. I store information I’d rather keep handy instead of being enslaved to an internet connection each time I want to revise or prepare necessary and immediate work. It’s my second Passport Ultra and I recommend them for handy electronic storage.

I bought this item to use on a location shoot where I needed to backup video files quickly and easily. I always forget with these new drives you have to unlock/partition them before you can use them, so other than that extra step after taking it out of the box it’s pretty quick setup. The price is right for a low profile portable hard drive to use on production shoots or anything else for that matter as back up or transferring of media. My production team runs pretty lean and mean so anything that can save space and work fast is one of our primary concerns. This little gem works like a charm.

A great backup system with easy to use backup software. Purchased for my freshman son in college. A family friend, who was a senior in college, had their laptop stolen a few months ago. Buying a new laptop was easy. Her biggest issue was losing all her personal documents (notes, research papers) and electronic textbooks. The ebooks were expensive to replace and the lost notes were irreplaceable. We decided to purchase our son a backup system that was easy to use. The WD Passport Ultra allows you to set a schedule for backup (set it and forget it). Ten minutes after opening, my son had his backup scheduled. You can also use the cloud. Compatible with USB 3.0, file transfer appeared very quick (backward compatible with USB 2.0 too). It fits into a shirt pocket so my son had no problem slipping it into a pocket in his backpack. It also came with a pouch to protect the unit. Overall, a great backup option for someone who values their files.

So far so good – it was easy to reformat to be used for both MAC and Windows (I have both) using it as a second backup for everything that is stored offsite. Easy to carry around and use

I was looking for a small, lightweight, fast USB 3.0 external hard disk for my laptop. The drive/cable weights 6.1oz (176g). Looking at various USB drive comparisons it ranks rather high for USB 3.0 transfer speeds (it is fast on my laptop) and mid-pack for USB 2.0 speeds (on my desktop). It works nicely for backing up my photos/videos and transferring data between systems. It has hardware encryption of the data which saves me from using virtual drive software. A good buy 😉

While the drive itself is great, it’s let down by the maintenance software that regularly gives up when doing full verification of the disk, and more annoyingly tells me there are RAID issues and hangs the computer yet it’s never even been formatted with RAID! I uninstall it, but it seems to come back…
