Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

It’s not the fastest drive, but it holds a lot of 1’s and 0’s. I use it for backup of big video files. It takes about twice as long to transfer to then a raided drive, but it’s also smaller and bus powered.

I’ve used an older model WD My Passport Ultra external hard drive as a backup for my iMac since 2013 and was happy with it. With this new model, however, the Type-C cable supplied with it did not plug securely into my iMac. I later found that this is a common complaint on another site. At no charge, B&H replaced the cable with a better one that fit properly. The device was very easy to set up with Time Machine: just plug into Type-C port of iMac, go to System Preferences, select Time Machine, unlock via Admin, and start backup.

I needed a good external hard drive for pictures etc. Need it to work with an older tower and laptops. this fit the bill and works great

Use the system for backing up extensive photo files. Loads RAW and TIFF files reasonably quickly with USB 3.0. Good auto-backup utility and useful system security capability. Very reliable storage.

I have two of these to back up my data and photo files. I alternate backing up between them on at least a weekly basis, more frequently if I am gernerating a lot of files or doing alot of photo processing. That wasy I am never going to lose more than a week of data out if something happens and I have a major hard drive failure. I picked this because: (1) it was affordable; (2) it is easy to use (just plug it in and let it interface with your computer for you; (3) compatible with both USB 2.0 (for my almost obsolete current computer) and USB 3.0 for the one I am almost ready to buy; (4) plenty of storage for my current needs; (5) compact and easily transportable. It is not meant to be continuously plugged in to your computer. Unplug it when not actiely backing up. Otherwise, get one. It’s nuts to not have your data backed up if you have things on your computer that you don’t want to lose.

I am doing a family history with a lot of graphics, photo and videos. I bought 3 of these drives – one for each of our daughter. The size – both physical and and capacity – is just what I need. Enjoy dealing with B&H as they are prompt and provide good value

The 2x 2TB kit drives are the perfect solution for my archive needs. I use 1 for complete backups of 500GB main drive (SSD) and 1TB internal HDD; the other for ongoing photo and document backups. Along with an ongoing 4TB “live” backup of whole system these drives complete a reasonable backup strategy. These drives are really fast and have included USB 3.0 cables.

My marketing system uses 34 computers. To keep our systems working properly we store and save essential files. These detached hard drive are a life saver. I’ve got four of them now, and they make my life easier. They have saved my butt many times. They make it easy to move files, from one machine to another.————-

I got it about a month ago and I am very happy with it. Small, but big on data size, fast and well made.

Arrived quickly and well packaged like every order from B&H. I reformatted for my MacBook with a single partition and then used Carbon Copy to move 1TB from a failing Seagate 2TB external 3.5 HD. I have not measured performance but I can say that all my photos are on this drive and accessed from Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Performance is acceptable for me. The portability is perfect. Its much easier to carry than an external desktop case. I backup several times a week using CC to a 4TB external USB 3 Hitachi TOURO. I have SAFETYNET on so that any error such as accidental delete of a file can be recovered. Its a good setup for just over a couple hundred dollars.

Using this to back up video during location production. Heavier than I expected. Non deluxe enclosure, but who cares? Nice to have color coordinated pares for original and back-up.
