If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Of all my WD External Hard Drives, this is the only one I ever had to send back for replacement. Of course B&H was on top of getting my issue worked out, but I’ve never had a WD drive fail me before. Locked up right away, thankfully I hadn’t loaded any data on it. I’ve noticed the newer passport drives seem to be, shall we say, not so solid, like the older ones that I own. I will stay loyal to WD, but will look at their other Passport options. Thankfully, all worked out.

I am a retired HS teacher who makes extra money running karaoke shows on the weekends. I store my music on the Passport HD. The sveltness of the Passport is a serious advantage, as well as using the USB drive as the source of power. I have had a number of Passport HDs over the years, and have found them to be exceptionally dependable. This version is the 3.0 USB version, and I SWEAR that it searches much more quickly than the last one I used. I have recommended it to other KJs. Great value and great performance!

It works, and has some pre-loaded programs on it to assist with backups. The backup software needs to be a bit more intuitive IMO. Still running after one month. I do wish the drive light would just stop when in sleep mode, instead I just taped over the way too bright indicator so it would not illuminate the office after hours with a flashing glow.

Given that the 2 TB version only cost a glass of wine more than the 1 TB, it was a no brainer. It is very fast. Only downside is that it is a bit wide. I formatted it so I can use it with my chromebook and it works great. Bought a nice case for it.

I am a photographer with a rapidly growing collection of images that need to be well protected for future availibility. I have had a WD 1TB external drive for about 3 years, and it has been a silent, dependable workhorse at storing my photo data files, but beginning to fill up. Recently bought a much more robust computer to better handle Photoshop processing (i7 processor, 16Gb fast RAM, and a big fat 500 Gb SSD C-drive for extreme file management speed and processing), and I decided to boost my storage capacity. I purchased the pair of WD passport externals, 2 TB each, and set them up for double redundancy. Simple to install, plug ’em in, set up the folders you want backed up, and your done – 10 minutes tops. Very fast, plug into a pair of SS USB 3.0, great price for the pair, and best of all, peace of mind on a large collection of important image data. What’s not to like ??? B&H is the best in the business

I have had WD & Seagate HDs for 15 years. I prefer WD. I had some of my 8-10 year old WD 2TB Hardrives die on me this year, so I bought this to replace them. So far, the speed is faster than my other ones. The USB-C is nice. I have only had it two weeks, so we’ll see if they last 10 years like some of my other HDs.

Although this drive is USB 3.0 compatible, my computer has only USB 2.0 ports. No matter, the drive is functioning perfectly anyway. It’s small in size, but big in capacity, with plenty of room for my file needs.
