Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

WD products are excellent, they have a long track record of being one of the best hard drive storage solutions whether in a portable drive or an internal OS drive. This Passport Ultra with 3.0 USB is blazing fast, I have it working with my backup solution, NovaBACKUP and have the best for fast backups and safe storage in case of a catastrophic disaster of hard drive proportion – I am covered. B&H provided awesome service, super fast shipping and look forward to doing business again, and again with them.

I bought two Passports USB 3TB maybe a year ago or so (both Ultra) I got the SAME drive a couple of weeks ago and it benchmarked better than the older ones. It performed overall a solid 20% faster. I have no idea about the latter. All drives have the most recent firmware updates.

I use this drive for backup. I have 3 of them and I like the size and speed. They’ve been proven to be very reliable.

This is a quality portable drive so far. Setting it up was easy and very straight forward. This drive is compact and well built. It has a USB 3.0 which comes in handy when copying large files. I recommend this for transporting media and backing it up.

I use this drive for quick offloading of footage and offline edits while traveling. This drive is stable, fast, and has never let me down.

For the price, it seemed like a good buy. However, it seems as though I received a malfunctioning hard drive. The little light on the side would blink when I plugged it into my computer, but my computer wouldn’t recognize it like it would with my La Cie’s. Will be returning.

I bought the 500GB My Passport Ultra to back up two PCs. I don’t have any video files, raw digital photos or other types of files that consume a lot of disk space, so 500GB is way more than adequate for me. My needs exceeded the capacity of smaller thumb drives (8GB, 16GB), so I figured it was time to go for an extrnal HDD, especially since they’re now so small and relatively inexpensive. I paid almost as much for my first thumb drive (4GB) as I did for this 500GB portable HDD! The drive is small, fast and Windows 7 (64 bit) installed the necessry driver and had it ready for use very quickly. I didn’t install any of the software included on the HDD. I do not like using backup software like WD’s SmartWare that stores data in a proprietary format. I don’t care that it can save space; space is not an issue for me and reliable access to my data is paramont. I used Bvckup 2 (Yes, thats a ‘v’ not an ‘a’.), which is simple, quick and efficient, and I can access my files with anything that has a USB port and can read files stored in NTFS. As I’ve just started using it, I can’t speak for its reliability. But I’ve used WD HDDs in all of my computers since the late 1990s and have never had a problem, which is the primary reason I chose WD as my first portable HDD. As others have noted, you will probably want a longer USB 3.0 cable than the one packaged with this drive. I bought a 3′ Pearson from B&H and it seems to be a very good cable. And I will probably be purchasing a case smoetime soon.

Purchased 2x 5TB. I have had several My Passport’s over the years, and never had one fail or any issues. I wanted the USB-C ports, as that’s the future and it makes it easy having such a common port. Sure they’re not the fastest drives (compared to SSD), but at this price and HUGE capacity they are ideal for storing photos/videos. I use one as a Plex server. Highly recommend

Great for quick video transfers.

The price is right, it’s small, and it’s bus powered. I use these as transfer drives to get video footage to clients. They’re not really fast enough to edit from, but they help get footage from one place to another.

This hdd is perfect! The size of a pack of cigarettes, it’s easy to carry around with my laptop. At 1 TB, it’s great either for carrying around photos to process on to dump SDHC while on vacation. The speed on usb3 is crazy, I love it.

I made a huge research on external hard drives before I chose this one, and it didn’t let me down. Fast, convenient, and not too expensive. Great purchase.

Needed to get a larger drive, preferably USB-powered and as fast as possible, at an economical price. While I would have liked to have bought an SSD, they’re still pretty expensive compared to the Passport. I’m using it for my MacOS Time Machine backups as well as archiving other files that are suitable for near-line (versus on-line) storage.

I needed an external hard drive so this has worked about well.

Large storage in a small package. Have several of these and mainly use to store and backup pictures and videos. Have yet to have any negative issues.
