If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I bought the WD Passport to replace my old Seagate external hard drive and I’m very happy with my purchase. It plug’s into a USB 3.0 port (also draws power from the USB port) and sit’s on top of my Desk top CPU unit. I configured my backups using the WD software and also Windows 10 backup and I don’t even think about backing up any more. It does it all for me and works in the background. Couldn’t ask for a better External Hard Drive. If your thinking about buying one, just do it. I highly recommend this product.

Rock solid, dependable drive. I had well over 1,000 DVD’S, stretching back in time to when my kids were toddlers. I ripped all those movies and put them on this drive which, incidentally, I was able to use, along with Plex, to watch them again. I’ve since copied those movies to an internal WD Red drive. So now I have a backup as well. Great device.

I bought 3 of these to get the quantity discount. Big mistake. This hard drive tries to auto install some SES software that is not found on Windows update. I went to the Western Digital website to find out how to get rid of this. One has to download another program from the Western Digital site to block the attempted auto installation of this useless SES driver. If one does not do this then every time one connect the hard drive to their computer it will try to auto install the SES driver. What a piece of junk! I do not need this hassle every time I use this device. Why do companies pollute their hard drives with garbage? I am returning them and buying a different brand.

it showed up and when I plugged it into the USB it installed itself like it should but when I removed it and then plugged it back in, it would not find the drive. I ended up removing the software and it is working as a spare storage device
