Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

The continuing progress in storage density, while expected, is still a very pleasant surprise when you hold it in your hand. Here we have a package a bit smaller than a 3 x 5 index card (same width, a tad shorted on the long edge) and 0.75 thick. Weighs 8 ounces and holds 5 TBytes! Even discounting for the disk-drive industry’s penchant for base 10 trillions rather than base 2, that’s a lot of storage in one tiny package. No issues powering over a USB 3.0 interface, using the USB 3 to USB C adapter included. Opens up wonderful possibilities for disaster recovery. Thanks B&H & WD.

Failed in less than a year. I was using it for Time Machine and the disk no longer mounts. Fail in running first aid and erase. Waste of money.

I’ve standardized on using these for my video projects as either the primary project drive or as a secure project backup drive. In the 5+ years since I’ve standardized on these, I’ve yet to have one fail on me. You just have to remember that they are still mechanical drives with moving parts so I do treat them carefully. When I travel, they get put in their own portable drive carry case along with some desiccant, just as some extra insurance against damage.

I have 5 of these for storing wedding photos and they work great. I especially love the fact it runs off of phantom power.

WD external drives are my favorite and this one is no exception. I purchased it because I have some problems with a Seagate drive in my toaster and wanted to make sure that I had at least 2 backups for my photos.

This drive is everything I expected and wanted it to be–large capacity, small size, fast USB3.0 data transfer, and quiet. Reliability cannot be judged until the drive has performed for many years.

Can be used as a backup device by running the included WD SmartWare software Can also be used as a large storage device. If you have laptop with only a 128GB SSD you can use this 1TB WD hard drive to store a large number of files such as when shooting pictures on assignment save a copy of the original RAW files to the WD device

No need to find a power outlet, hook everything up, only to find out the power outlet is just a foot to far away from the computer… Just one tiny cable! It is detachable from the drive, but in my opinion that wouldn’t even be necessary. Basically I’m saying I’m using this as one big fast USB stick.

I use this for backing up video shot on site. The only caveat was that I had to format it for my Macbook Pro before I could use it. Good product at good price.

Extra storage space is a must with the size of digital files. The 1 TB My Passport Ultra Portable External hard drive is a great product. The USB 3.0 speeds up the down loads and access by software. The portable size and build add a convenience when used with my laptop.
