Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

This is WD’s latest, beleived it would stay within my trust level.Utilties are great but not the free Cloud upload as their terms state that it may get terminated at anytime no notice, so I never get excited about their clever ad. Their drive utilities can save your day before this HDD develops any bad sectors. Be careful when you use the Security Utility to setup password protected HDD, you can’t get the data back if you forget the password. I have made this HDD as my external boot drive with few partitions and two of which are FAT32 (cross platform compatibility). Totally a must have if you would really need an angel to protect your back.

High capacity at a very great price. Have had no issues transferring files from PC to Mac, a good alternative to flash drives, extremely portable.

It’s small, powers off usb 3.0 or 2.0, and it’s fast. It’s very quiet when running. I had zero problems when transferring data from my 1GB NTFS usb backup drive that uses AC power, to this one which powered directly off the bus. Folks don’t realized just how important being able to power using usb can be. I actually had a power outage yesterday, and the ac powered 1GB turned off. This Western Digital stayed on, and was humming away 🙂

I’ve had WD Passports for years. The last one I bought was in 2016 and it feels like good quality, good weight, it’s silent, and after 4 years of daily use it’s still going strong. However, this one sounds like a jet engine starting up. Seriously, it’s a white noise machine. The description also mentions aluminum but don’t get your hopes up, it feels like a cheap piece of hollow plastic. Sure, it’s fast, and undoubtedly the drive quality is the same as it’s always been….but come on WD, try harder.

Have had this for a couple of years now. Seems to work fine. Plug and play. Have used with Vista and Windows7. Mostly use it for backing up data, and transferring files between computers. I have only used it a few times each year.

Took a few minutes, but the backup found the Microsoft back up program and started to back up my files.

Nothing amazing here. I use the hard drive as an external backup for my Windows 10 PC. As expected it’s plug and play; works fine. Would be nice if the USB cable that came with it was longer. I decided to use the Windows backup software, not the Western Digital backup software. A compact design for a 3 TB drive. Powered by the USB cable. Price was good. Delivery was timely. I have a similar 40 GB Western Digital drive I bought in 2001; it’s still working good; that encouraged me to buy this drive.
