Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I knew nothing and still know nothing about external hard drives and how to do much with them, but I wanted to make sure I had something to store pictures and documents in case my PC stopped working. After reading on line reviews, I figured this was the item to get. Great price and massive storage. I was able to move everything that I wanted from my C drive to this portable drive. It didn’t come with any instructions, but it didn’t have to. It was really easy. I’ll admit that I did a youtube search for a demo of the drive. It was as easy as they showed on the video on youtube. I don’t know how to copy my entire operating system if I wanted to do that, but I’m sure I could find out how. The thing is really quiet and small. I can carry it in my coat pocket if need be. I don’t know the difference between moving items from one PC to this unit and an actual backup of info, but I’m sure I can find it on line. For my needs, this was very easy to use. Hopefully it lasts forever.

We love these hard drives , they are so sleek and take up very little room on your desk. The added attraction of no more bulky power cords makes this a no brainer for our photography studio .

Before I bought this I was considering the DBY8L0020BBK-NESN which was cheaper. However this is what I finally went for. It’s very fast, quiet and very compact. Also this one comes with a 3 year warranty instead of 2 years on the other one. Comes with online backup too.

I am and IT person and vidcaster(video podcaster) among other things. I have two of these for temporary backup and editing on the go. I can consolodate an Avid project to the Passport and edit in a coffee shop or in my car. I have the Case Logic case for the one I take offsite to edit. They work well with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.I have clients rotating them offsite for backup. I recommend tape but the Passports work well if you rotate them, that is have two or three and it least one is offsite at all times.I am a big fan of these drives. My only complaint may be the short cable.

I have always trusted Western Digital drives, and this one is no different. Like may others have found, the USB cable is a piece of junk. It doesn’t lock positively in place, and I replaced it with a much better one I already had. Problem solved.

This unit sits next to my iMac Studio M1 along with 3 other independent hard drives. Plug and play with a Mac. It’s quiet and reasonably quick. Used to back up photos. Although I leave it on the desktop it would be easy to transport – other than being heavier than SSD drives. Interfaces smoothly with automated back up programs – Carbon Copy Cloner and Back Blaze. Great value for 4 TB of storage.

I went to work today and plugged in my HDD only to find out that the drive had failed overnight. It worked fine yesterday and now all of my data is inaccessible and the changes made since my last backup are lost. Having never had an issue like this happen so quickly with a HDD I will most likely never go this route again.

I use the drive to back up photographs on my desktop computer and also to act as the primary repository for photographs on my laptop. It replaces a smaller WD disk that I have outgrown. I appreciate the size, speed, and durability of the Passport, particularly when traveling with the laptop.
