This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

They are not the fastest drives, but I just need them for storing my client files, so really like the reliability and price. I always by them in pairs and use Carbon Copy Cloner to keep a backup; so far have never had a challenge with lost data (touch wood :=) Keep mine in plastic Sterilite boxes so they stay dry and clean. They’re on sale about twice a year, so get more when needed.

I have a 4TB WD, 4TB Seagate, and now this 5TB USB-C interfaced WD. I really needed that extra TB for my backup applications, and since I’m on a relatively new Mac Mini, I really wanted a USB-C interface. Drive worked like a charm. Already formatted for HFS+, I just plugged it in, told Time Machine to use it, and off it went. Also backed up a 2TB archive drive through the make with Disk Utility. Again, fast and no issues. And, as usual, B&H delivered promptly with no issues. I’m a happy customer!

Seems like a good drive. I only use it for backing up my Music stuff so it will not be on all the time. My only disappointment was the packing job. They through it in a box with two small pillow bubble packing things that were flat (no air in them) on the top only and it was sailing around the box hitting the sides. Hard drives are very sensitive so I hope it lasts. It got banged up during shipping, that’s for sure. This is the only time I got a package from B&H that was packed poorly. Most of the time they do a very good job packing. The person must of been in a hurry?

+ How I use the product: – I buy one of these for every year of work that I have to store both RAW files and their finished JPEGs. – I use the current one to keep my RAW files and .XMP files as I’m editing current projects. + What’s great about this product: – Very portable, slim, and easy to store in my bag! – Fast reads! I’m transferring images at an average of 75MB/sec with USB 3.0 on a 2007 laptop. – I’ve never had any crashes or errors with the data. I like the look and feel of this portable drive, it’s small enough to carry around and has the storage size for to store all my photos, music and videos. The SamrtWare backup software takes a long time for the initial backup – I had to let it run overnight to backup my 366 GB. Once that is done the subsequent backup runs very quickly.
