This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Don’t have much to say – it works! Connected to Mac Book Pro to backup NAS. It runs quiet, a bit warm but nothing unusual. Read/write speed is about the same as for Ethernet-connected NAS. All in all, I can recommend this enclosure as a backup solution.

the wd external drive was easily recognized by windows 7 pro 64-bit OS which is installed on a Lenovo laptop. drivers were initially loaded after pluging in the USB cable to the laptop. the WD external drive was immediately viewable using win7’s file manager. in my opinion this is a MUCH better product that seagates’ line of external drives and the WD has a longer warranty.

As always BH ships so quickly I don’t know how you do it. As a partially retired videographer I not only archive current projects but also rearchive past projects. I don’t know how long those older hard drives will last. Today we have larger hard drives than ever before at affordable prices. I find myself archiving more items than in the past.

Either the batch I got was a fluke, or WD has dropped the QA department. Ordered the same one twice, second to replaced the first failed one. Both lasted 1 week before data corruption and file structure corruption. This was a size upgrade to the old WD ultra that I used daily for 2+ years, that I have to continue to use.

I erased/reformatted the drive when I got it, works fine with my Mac. The data transfer speed is good, and it is bus powered (less cables!). Good for in office backups, and it’s a perfect size to stuff into a safe deposit box for offsite storage. But for travel, I prefer the Ultra Metal Edition of this drive.
