Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

the size is great. just like a passport. Although a little heavier than I thought. But still great.

Was fairly easy to use right out of the box. Transfer rate seemed a bit slow but that was most likely due to outdated failing hard drive on windows XP system. Otherwise seems like a really good device.

Works as I’d expect. Didn’t come with a carrying pouch like my less expensive 1TB version though.

This HD performs as advertised. It’s small and light, and goes with me on all my travels so that I can download photos. I also carry a LaCie rugged external HD with me for backup redundancy. I can tell no difference between the performance of the two. This is a great value for a very good 2TB HD.

Looked at several compatible hard drives to connect to my Linksys router for camera video storage. It was so simple, plugged it in, worked instantly. Good value for the dollar. It will take time to test the reliability, but so far, all good.

The drive is very fast (usb 3.0) and B&H had a great price, no tax or shipping. The best price of anywhere online.

I have two of these drives along with three 1st-generation Passports (all 2 TB). I run them USB 2.0 through a powered USB hub connected to my laptop. On this drive I mostly store video (VOB) and music files (mostly .wav) and never run into any problems watching movies or listening to music. (Many people cite arcane speed data that in my experience has very little meaning in real-world usage. I never experience any lags or slowdowns due to USB 2.0.) The drive is lightweight, runs relatively cool, and is completely silent. I like that WD no longer pre-installs backup programs on these drives. All applications are contained in a folder on the drive, so installing is completely optional and up to the user. I do recommend the diagnostic program that is included.

About four years ago I got a new laptop, custom assembled by the manufacturer. I choose the largest drive 750 GB and they even shrunk that by using it for back-up — Back up on the primary drive!! I like to take RAW photos and those ca 30 GB shots start to take space. So 2TB seemed like a dream and so far I have not been disappointed. I do plan to use it for back-up and to provide space for other things.

Never had a problem with one of these.

I bought this to store my photo library on. You have to reformat it for Mac before using it. After that it works perfectly. Speed is good. I always buy WD now after having a couple seagates fail.

Got my 1.5tb drive for my photos. Comes in handy for school. The drive works well enough, no problems so far. Never had any problems with WD. Little to no delay on use.

It was difficult to install the WD 5TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type- C External Hard Drive for our Mac, and we had problems being able to log in to register it….We had to call Apple Care for them to install it….. Although installation and communication were difficult, it seems to be working well.

Drive is small and sleek with tons of storage at 2TB. Unit recognized with no issue and ready to go as soon as you plug it in. Wanted to use this to store video files while working at school. Meets all expectations.

Fast, easy set up, great product for the price. I got the nomad case too for it which fits it snugly. Highly recommended for those who need more space!

I needed backup/restore with Mac time machine. That worked well with non-mac version of WD Passport, after automatic reformatting. The whole process takes long time due to mac’s security, while the result was good. No extra cables needed, power over USB-C.

The included USB-C cable is total garbage. It doesn’t fit flush with the Mac and, if you bump it the tiniest bit, the drive will disconnect from the computer. On the HD side, there is so much play in the USB-C connector that it’s amazing it can even (occasionally) communicate with the computer. It took multiple connection attempts to even get the drive to mount. I’m sending this back for a refund!
