Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

This was purchased to hold the massive library of 4K videos and 20 to 50 Mp photos I will be taking with two new cameras I have preordered but have not yet received, as of the writing of this review. But in the meantime it makes me feel like a Bond villain. So I got THAT goin’ for me, which is nice.

Product as expected. Package received without any problems. Drive itself works like a charm. Quiet. Fast as you would expect from sata3 drive.

I own 4 of these things. They are reliable, and easy to use. Compatible with both macs and windows, and last for quite a while. Also good performance drives for small editing projects.

I tried to use this HD to extend the capacity of my laptop’s HD. Unfortunately, this drive is incompatible with later OS X versions I had Yosemite and upgraded to El Capitan in hopes that an upgrade would resolve issues) Searches online showed that Windows systems are also affected (Search for WD Passport ultra not mounting or wd passport ultra not recognized) I had an old OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) floating around and it was able to read the disk. I tried formatting the WD drive for Mac and try again in later OS, but it still wouldn’t work. Had to return it. Also, by using this drive you agree to binding arbitration, which severely limits your ability to seek redress for any issues that might arise. That was a definite put-off for me, and the incompatibility issue sealed it for me. Got a Seagate, and it works like a charm.

It works as you’d expect from a plug in storage: Plug into USB port (no additional power needed), ready to use! The only thing I did not expect was the thickness of the case. 3 years ago I bought a 1TB drive from WD and that case was about 4mm thinner then this one. I would have thought that both drives contain roughly the same amount of HDD’s and as such the case would have the same dimensions (or thinner). But hey – it’s 2TB and still fairly small!

The weight of WD 3Tb is lighter than previous one and the price also chipper than same size of 3Tb passport. The wrighting and reading speed also higher than previous 3Tb passport.

It’s beautiful to look at and it works perfectly for me. My only disappointment is that SmartWare backup software was not on the drive, although if you already have the software it will be recognized. Service for the productless was faultless, as usual.

I bought this to backup my Macbook Pro. I’m a Graphic Design student so I don’t have that much to put on it right now, the 2TB is a good size for me at the moment and all I had to do was plug it in and Time Machine did the rest. It runs a little hot when you first set it up, but after it’s done with that it runs pretty smooth.

Transfers data fast (as long as you have a USB 3.0 port) and it is very compact. No power supply – just plug it in and you are set. Looks like a very good product. So far I am impressed.
