Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

First off, I’m no computer expert. But I am an avid photographer. I’ve been wanting and needing a back-up for all the images I have stored on my desktop. After reading several reviews that listed many pros and few if any cons, I went with this one. Just as claimed by WD, it is super simple to set-up and use with the included software.

I would not recommend this product. Sadly lost all of my backups within a month of using the hard drive. Working with Western Digital is really hard & not an easy process. I have used this brand for years, & the last couple of years it just seems as though the quality has dropped. Would suggest a different hard drive.

Have been using this drive for about 5 months and have had no problems at all.

I prefer this form factor to the newer version. The newer version is more boxy and less appealing.

so far so good, after a month. Easy to use, fast.

I Google searched and amazon shopped for a 1.5 TB hard drive and B&H had the best deal. The product is great. I’ve backed up two computers and a dropbox account into one centralized area. I’ll be using this device for backups and general storage for years. The order was quick, easy and I could login using my Google+ account, there was no mistake on my identity. Great Experience.

This is my D: drive, for thousands of digital photos. I have another Passport that I use for backup, and keep off-site. Larger (TB), smaller (size), no power cable needed, and faster than my failing external.

i have tons of these things used as dedicated video drives. Portable, don’t fail, and BTW — the 5TB is like $8 more than the 4TB drive. no brainer.

We have a handful off external drives. This is the easiest one I have setup on my Mac mini. It is a great value for the size and price. it works fine and shipping was free and fast.

I’ve been a graphic designer for more than 10 years now and I’ve had many Western Digital drives. The only reason I have ever needed to get rid of them wasn’t because they failed but because they no longer have enough capacity for backing up everything from newer computers. The Passport series in particular have been great. I use this 1.5tb drive to make daily backups of my work files to backup offsite. I’ve only used this on Macs so I can’t really say how good the on board software is but the drive itself is sturdy and quiet.

Find this product very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Would have liked some kind of a user manual to be included with product.

I own multiple of these drives and use them for video editing. They aren’t the fastest drives in the world but serve their purpose well. I will continue buying these until I find a better value. The wires have a tendency to go bad which makes you think the drive is failing but if you switch a different USB cable it seems to be fine.

I do weekly full backups. This works like a charm. I don’t use the bundled software or services – but these may be very useful for other people!

While this drive is not the fastest kid on the block, it works very well with a laptop on the go. In spite of USB 3.0, the 5400 rpm drive limits your write speed. Powering the drive directly from the USB port is huge – not having to carry around another power brick or a wall wart is great!

Works as expected however I had to contact Western Digital because the software would not work with Windows 10. Easy fix but I’m glad I caught it. It looked like everything was backed up but you couldn’t open the files.

I plugged this to my Laptop and worked right away, no drives needed to install. Transfer rates are great. Was able to back up all my data, and still a lot of space left for future backups! Great buy!
