This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

Hardware is fine. WD’s backup software can be difficult, Acronis for WD is better, but not perfect. Portable Hard Drives have been around for quite some time. One would think that a major supplier of portable Hard Drives, like WD, would have perfected the software so that it is a no-brainer to install (automatically) and use. They used to call this Plug and Play.

We bought this to replace a backup drive that crashed at work. It is nice and compact – which I like since I take one off site each week. I can just slip it in my purse. We have now ordered two – in different colors. So, no mistake as to which is which. We have only been using it about a week, so I cannot comment on durability. But, so far, so good!

Another quality WD product, Connected immediately and fast as expected, no problems. The device itself seems pretty solid, I purchased a solid case to ensure that it is protected from general hazards like water and dirt. Once plugged in, the HDD offers various applications to protect and backup information as promised by WD. I am very happy with this product and look forward to getting rid of my old WD my book, which is taking up more space than I care to use.

I bought this unit as a replacement for my previous 2TB My Passport Ultra, which unfortunately stopped working (and lost all information stored) after falling from the sofa I was sitting on. I know that HDDs are not SDDs, but WD could at least equip such portable units with a more rugged construction, capable of withstanding minor falls. It is a very good product, but it has to be handled with care!

I use it for backing up my files on a daily basis. 2TB is just right for me. The write/read speed is fast since it’s USB3.0 ready. WD is always my first choice!

I am using it to back up my photo collection and website and reduce the storage on my startup SSD. I use a Mac and needed to reformat the drive to accommodate the operating system. This was simply done with the disk utility app. The usb cable is short but this is not an issue since I remove the drive from the desk after backing up and put it in a drawer.

This is my 5th WD External HD. I have not had any issues with any of them. Knock on wood. The last one I bought was the Element series. The Passport seems to have a better build quality to it.

Very compact. I formatted the drive for HFS+ journaled for my Mac Air, then tested it using the Blackmagic Disk Speedtest software and I was getting approximately 100MB/s read and write speeds. Great for temporary onsite backup of my photos.
