Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

WD is my go-to backup drive and the small size is great. They got an extra 1TB for a total of 5TB up from the 4TB units. Comes with one cable instead of two. There is USB-C to USB-A adapter that plugs on. The adapter requires a little more force to make sure it is fully seated, once that was done, I was backing up without an issue. Still fixes in the 4TB case. Great little drive for the price.

I thought it came with a c cord compatible with MacBook Pro but it’s useless until I get the adapter

Not the biggest in capacity, but surely holds a lot for this price. Very quiet, reliable, won’t overheat, stores a ton.

Use it to back up my files. It’s easy to use, fast, reliable, portable and quite rugged. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. I already have several My Passport portable hard drives and I continue to buy the same because I have confidence in their performance. Not so great: a little too pushy about extra services/tasks

Im a wedding photographer and I’ve been using this hard drive for both back my files up and save some of my photos as well. it is really fast and even when I’m transferring all my files over 50GB from my SD cards it performs very well

The price for storage has dropped over time and this drive is a great example of how much you can get for a small cost.

It’s a harddrive. It uses USB. It works. Only con is that the light at the back can be pretty bright if you’re using it in a dark room.

Great drive, I’ve had these and the smaller ones for years. Reliable drives, traveled well with me, just protect from large shocks.

Great for my data library to be able to fit in my hand when traveling for hearings and court. It has much capacity, powered through the USB so no external power is necessary and is of a small profile so little room is taken in my computer bag

I use it mainly for storing lots of photos for processing in Lightroom. Easy to use, very fast and reliable so far. Also very quiet. Several nice utilities tell how much space is used and how much left. Will encrypt content but that seems like over kill – too much paranoia. Neat color

4TB and USB 3.0 is the perfect combination for this portable hard drive. I edit a lot of videos on location and it is much more convenient to transport from one location to the other.

So far, so great (I’ve had it less than a year). I use it to automatically back-up everything on my desktop pc. It does just that, unobtrusively (it’s very compact and silent). Only the blinking light assures me it’s doing anything. It looks and feels rugged. I’m impressed that Western is confident enough in its product to include a three-year warranty (limited of course); not that I would ever test a hard-drive to its limits. At this price point, I will replace it within the next year. It’s USB-powered, another plus (I have more ports than ac plugs). I’m totally satisfied.

I am not sure what exactly I did wrong, here, but I thought I would share in case it helps others. The drive itself seemed to work fine to start. I bought it for the hardware encryption. After turning on encryption, I copied a bunch of stuff to it using Mac Finder. That seems to have worked with no issue. I tried to copy files within Lightroom to the WD Passport. However, somehow, the files were disappearing, and it took me a while to notice. Some issue between Lightroom and the encrypted drive. Worse! I did not realize Lightroom was doing a MOVE and not a COPY. So, 6400+ photos, gone. (I was doing this to create a new backup, since my previous backup hardware died) Fortunately, Lightroom started complaining about errors at some point, and ended up finishing before trying to move ALL the photos, so I still have some left. But since my backup had already died, the missing photos are gone gone. I don’t know what the issue is at this point, but I really don’t trust the encryption now on the WD passport, which is the main reason I bought this drive vs. other options. So beware! At the least, be careful with Lightroom + encryption on this drive. Background: My backup drive had failed. My plan was to use the WD passport as a new primary storage for photos, and use my current USB hard drive as the backup. So first step was to copy the photos to the WD Passport. And then encrypt the old USB hard drive and copy things back.

This is a lot of storage in a very compact package. I don’t use the software that comes with it. It works fine by just plugging it in. I love that there is no power cord and brick with it.My only complaint is that it is advertised as 2 TB but only 1.8 TB is actually accessible. This is standard practice, but I would like to see some truth in advertising.

I wanted a large capacity hard drive that didn’t need external power. I have used Western Digital Passport drives before and have been very pleased. This drive is USB-C and fast. It’s simple, just attach the cable, plug it in and it just works. B&H has a great price. I’m glad with this purchase.
