This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

I’ve been a graphic designer for more than 10 years now and I’ve had many Western Digital drives. The only reason I have ever needed to get rid of them wasn’t because they failed but because they no longer have enough capacity for backing up everything from newer computers. The Passport series in particular have been great. I use this 1.5tb drive to make daily backups of my work files to backup offsite. I’ve only used this on Macs so I can’t really say how good the on board software is but the drive itself is sturdy and quiet.

This is a very cool looking drive that is compact but yet has enough storage to back up multiple computers with huge drives in them. The included software is extremely user friendly. However, in setting up the new one, and adding a password, it complicated the use of the second which was also attached to my system at the time. I managed to sort this out, but could have done without the complication.
