Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

As photographer, I like to use these for archival purposes. Part of my 3 location backup system. Cloud, raid and external HD. While the speeds are slower than SSD’s I find they work well for my purposes

I use this product to store all of my raw footage and design files. The speed is excellent and I edit 4K video directly from this drive.

This hard drive is slim and good looking, relatively inexpensive, has lots of storage — and I thought it would be easy to use. However, the first thing that I learned is that its software was no longer supported and had to be updated. That was not an easy task. It has automatic backup, but I cannot determine if it is doing so. (When I look on my File Explorer, I see very little.) I have my fingers crossed.

I’ve used WD Passport for years and never had a problem. They are compact and easy to use. I buy new to accommodate the larger file sizes.

I have bought a few of these drives over the years and will continue to do so. Great portable hard drives at a great cost with quick data transfer speeds. Although they are not meant for editing, I have actually used them in the past when a client has sprung some request on me. Best used for storage only though.

As always, I highly recommend WD external drives. I own than 20. When this is full, I’ve already bought a new drive to take it’s place. On a regular basis, I back up my digital files on three external WD drives; two portables that I carry with me, and a desk top.

Avoid This Drive !!never worked out of the box and could not return.

I’ve never had one of their drives go bad, but the software user manual reads like a text for geeks. I’ve always had a futile time understanding it. I usually just blunder ahead and hope I’m doing it right.

I prefer WD Hard Drives as they are reliable and cost effective. This little USB drive is no exception, however I am not that impressed with the speed given that this drive is based on USB 3.0. It must be a 5400 RPM drive since the transfer rates are dismal when copying large amounts of data and that is why I only gave it a Three Star rating. I use it as a long term archive so no big deal but let the buyer beware.

I bought this to back up my 400GB of photos that had almost totally filled up my main drive. It’s cheap insurance if you ever have a hard drive failure. Everyone needs a backup of the hard drive either externally or in a cloud somewhere. I prefer externally under my own supervision and control
