Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

It’s a harddrive. It uses USB. It works. Only con is that the light at the back can be pretty bright if you’re using it in a dark room.

The bottom line is how long they last. These units are replacing four Seagate 4TB portable drives that all failed after a year of very light use.

It’s reasonably fast, rugged, and compact. And I should add stable. I bought a G-Tech drive R series drive for 3 times the price and it proved to be a bust. Granted, I wouldn’t want to stream audio of off the Passport but I bought it for storage and backup, and it’s perfect for that.

I have a stack of WD externals, and they are tremendous. I did, however, learn an expensive lesson not long ago. I am a Mac guy, and you MUST dismount the HDs before unplugging. This may sound elementary, but a lot of people hot swap and if you are, you’re running full speed toward the cliff. I lost 2 months of work and a complete portrait session with Jerry Tarkanian. All lost and not recoverable due to HD crash caused by hot swapping. ALWAYS dismount your HDs on a Mac or you are asking for catastrophe.

Small, fast, reliable, USB powered, large capacity mobile hard drive. Plenty of room for all your digital stuff. Doesn’t overheat, virtually silent and fast due to USB-3 connection. Like it a lot! 🙂

Find this product very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Would have liked some kind of a user manual to be included with product.

I use it to store video and photo, transfers fast, easy access, never had a problem and I’ve bought 5 of them

I bought this hard drive while it was on sale and got it for the same price as the 1 TB drive. I’ve used Western Digital before and new I’d like it better than other brands I’ve used in the past. It’s just what I needed to separate business from personal files.

First thing I did was format it, now just using for photography back up, so I don’t overload my computers hard drive. Now, while working on my photos in Lightroom, I work directly off this external hard drive instead of the computers hard drive. Works without any issues.

Plugged it in, and started using it. That simple.

I buy two of these at a time, so I have a backup, always. I store and edit HD video and they’re fast enough and durable enough to keep up. I own over 20 WD drives like this and none have failed yet…although, every drive eventually does, so keep everything backed up! I had a Lacie partitioned drive fail on one half of the partition…didn’t have a backup…never again, will I not have redundant drives.

Straight out of the box plugs in MacBook Pro and flies. Small, light and super simple to use.

While the drive itself is great, it’s let down by the maintenance software that regularly gives up when doing full verification of the disk, and more annoyingly tells me there are RAID issues and hangs the computer yet it’s never even been formatted with RAID! I uninstall it, but it seems to come back…

I like this drive, as it is very small and holds 2 terabytes of material for a very affordable price. I have taken it on film shoots and it is very easy to pack. The drawback I have seen so far is that, because of its small size, it has only one port, a small USB3. More ports always mean more flexibility. So far I have had no problems and would recommend it.

I use the hard drive to backup my photos and music. I’ve purchased Western Digital external hard drives for years and have never had any issues. I like the small size and the password protection.

I’m not the smartest tech person, but am usually pretty good with this kind of thing. I can’t figure out how to save files to this drive using my Mac. I just want to store some photos. I’m sure I’ll figure it out, but the fact that I’ve spent more than 15 minutes on trying means its too complicated for the simple function I want to use it for.

The hard drive required an Internet connection and a submission or your email address to use the drive. Annoying. I sent it back.
