Expand the storage on your Windows system and back up photos, video, music, and documents using the silver 2TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Type-C External Hard Drive from WD. This drive is equipped with 2TB of storage and a USB 3.0 Type-C interface. If your computer doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, an included USB Type-C to Type-A adapter helps ensure compatibility with older systems. This drive is also bus-powered, meaning that all its power is provided by the USB cable and no external power cables or adapters are required.
Since WD designed this My Passport Ultra drive for Windows, it comes preformatted NTFS for Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. If you happen to work across both Windows and Mac platforms, WD provides a downloadable NTFS driver for macOS, which enables the reading and writing of this My Passport Ultra drive without any reformatting. Or, make it fully Mac compatible with a simple reformat. Thanks to a 256-bit AES hardware encryption chip, your private files are kept more secure.

It’s good as long as I don’t leave it plugged in too long. I use a PowerBook and I have to force eject it if left in for several hours.

Love the size. One complaint(I noticed someone else had mentioned) The connection cord is EASILY disconnected. NOT like my other WD drives this size. Gotta be careful not to touch when working. Maybe some duct tape is called for.

I needed an external hard drive for all of my photos and came across multiple brands etc. I decided on this hard drive and could not be more happier. The software is very easy to use (which I have heard can be non-user friendly). I have had great experience with this external hard drive compared to my previous ones such as the Toshiba products (mainly due to the software). Great price for such a great product. I will be purchasing one for my parents very soon, and I highly recommend this external hard drive.

Excellent value for personal backup. Hardware encryption is one critical feature that make this product suitable for backing up important & private information.

The old passports worked so well, this drive (after painstakingly being reformatted to work with a MAC) disconnects so easily to the point where you have to restart your computer. You also can eject the drive without a “force eject” that compromises the data. I regret purchasing this and would purchase the old style of passports, unfortunately B&H doesnt carry them anymore. Buyer beware.

Easy to use, just plug usb into computer and it’s set to go. I don’t have usb 3.0 so my experience is not as great as it would be with a faster transfer rate. Nonetheless, it’s light, portable, holds a ton of data, and is reasonably priced.

How I use this product: – I have been using the WD My Passport portable HDDs in 2TB sizes since 2009 with no problems to keep my volumes of images + videos as a photographer. It’s where I keep organized archives of finished JPEGs of work I might need to bring up again and RAW files of all my work with their changes. Because I shoot much more, I decided to upgrade to the 3TB size. What’s great about it: – For a portable, self-powered portable HDD, this thing transfers pretty fast with USB 3.0. I usually get speeds around 75MB/sec 120MB/sec using my PC from 2012. It’s very compact and if you get even the neoprene case that they make for it (costs only a few bucks), you can be confident it’ll be safe with decent everyday handling & care. What’s not so great about it: – I feel like you may want to take care of the port where you insert the USB 3.0 cord. It does seem like it can wiggle a bit if you move it around a lot. As with any cords, it’s always a good maintenance measure to take when you keep the cords positioned so it is not bending too much or wiggling. Overall: – I plan to get another one for 2017 when the time comes. I haven’t had any failure and I’ve dropped some of them a couple times on a mildly hard surface, once or twice and they’ve been fine. Good transfer speed and portable size, I like it! =

This is my 5th WD External HD. I have not had any issues with any of them. Knock on wood. The last one I bought was the Element series. The Passport seems to have a better build quality to it.
